The Defra Group Security function within DDTS is recruiting a Sector Cyber Strategy Senior Officer.

Defra plays an integral role in the protection of two areas of Critical National Infrastructure (CNI); Water and Food, from cyber-attacks. These areas are diverse and contrasting in their scope. To this end a broad reaching review and strategy is to be compiled to inform Defra’s response and priorities in the future. This role will play a key part in the formulation and implementation of a Cyber Security Strategy within Defra Groups areas of interest.

The successful applicant will work alongside colleagues from within and external to Defra to coordinate the implementation of aspects of the plan and develop in-depth knowledge of their respective policy areas. This will include, Water Companies, Arm’s Length Bodies (ALB’s), Government Security Services and Cabinet Office to name a few.

Furthermore, this role is likely to involve training in Cyber Security concepts and technical skills but no prior knowledge is assumed or required.

This role requires security clearance.

**Responsibilities**
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and colleagues from Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) such as the Drinking Water Inspectorate and the Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat).
- Engage with technical experts in a collaborative way to build organisational and sector capability and seek out further information and knowledge in regard to Cyber Security and digital concepts.
- Delivering a good service to Policy Teams and seniors and work closely with the relevant policy teams and senior civil servants to deliver on priorities.
- Identify good practice from other government departments and seeking to implement this within Defra’s Cyber Plan.
- Brief senior stakeholders such as ministers and senior civil servants on complex Cyber issues whilst compiling submissions and publications for sign off and circulation.
- Developing an in-depth knowledge of each of the CNI sectors for which Defra is the LGD and review how they are impacted by Cyber Security.
- Oversee the delivery of aspects of the strategic priorities in partnership with policy teams.
- Engaging with private sector providers, other government departments and ALBs to appreciate the impact of Cyber Security in their areas.

**Skills and Experience**
- The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders engagement from a variety of government and non-government organisations.
- The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to work and a desire to learn or develop skills within Cyber Security.
