**What’s the role?**

The Subsea Control Systems/Umbilical Engineer will take part in the delivery of Subsea Controls Systems and/or Umbilical Engineering throughout the project lifecycle for UK Projects & Engineering as well as our Operated Assets including subsea controls system and umbilical related integrity issues.

Accountabilities:

- Manage Health, Safety and Environment aspects associated with Shell’s ‘Safety in Design’ and ‘Process Safety Fundamentals’ for design of subsea controls systems and umbilicals including safety and environmentally critical elements
- Delivery of subsea controls systems (new-build, modifications, and refurbishments) and subsea umbilical scopes in accordance with regulations, standards, guidelines (International, National and Company), Shell UK specifications and project requirements
- Providing technical assurance for internal and external multi-discipline engineering reviews for UK Projects & Engineering, and in support of operated assets for complex subsea control system related integrity issues

Dimensions:

- Within UK Projects and Engineering, activities of all Subsea Controls System / Umbilical Engineers are coordinated by the Subsea Controls System Lead Engineer, who also reports to the Subsea and Pipelines Discipline Lead
- Subsea Discipline Engineering is provided in a matrix format across all projects, requiring the simultaneous delivery of multiple work packages for the design, fabrication, installation, (pre-)commissioning and operation of subsea & pipelines production systems
- Working on complex (mainly brownfield), high value subsea & pipelines projects require multi-disciplinary experience including onshore and offshore integration, working closely with key contractors and operated host facilities, and ensuring compliance with the intent of Shell Project Management Framework
- Nurturing continuous improvement initiatives concerning cost, productivity, reliability, availability, operability, integrity and the qualification and deployment of (locally) new products/technology in accordance with industry guidelines and Shell framework
- Coaching and development of junior staff

**What we need from you**
- Commitment to undergo formal assessment for Shell Technical Authority
- Prior Subsea Controls System and/or Umbilical delivery experience, preferably with equipment manufacturers across design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing
- Able to solve technical challenges, to provide technical recommendations and to define functional requirements and understand factors influencing the selection of subsea controls systems and/or umbilicals
- Able to interpret and translate into practice regulatory requirements, industry standards, Company Technical Standards and Process Safety Basic Requirements related to subsea controls systems and/or umbilicals
- Good communication and influencing skills and aptitude for taking initiative are essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
