Working for us is all about making a positive difference to the children and young people of West Sussex. As an advisory teacher, you will be part of the SEN Assessment Team, reporting to the Service Manager.

You will cover the South of West Sussex, and be linked in with a number of secondary schools. You will provide practical support, advice and guidance to mainstream schools in that locality to enable effective inclusion of learners with EHCPs.

You will hold a specific caseload of learners (with EHCPs) who require additional focus to enable them to successfully transition into their local mainstream school. You will link with an Area SEND Advisor to provide further professional support, adviceand guidance to support your delivery of positive outcomes for these specific learners.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a professional lead to support mainstream inclusion. You will be responsible for raising standards and improving pupil progress and access to learning.

You will promote inclusive practice across all schools and settings, and act as an ambassador to enhance the quality of inclusive teaching and learning. You will also build and maintain relationships and influence activities, including working across andoutside the organisation to improve services, ensuring continuity of service and a single learning journey for all pupils. This includes working with leaders, managers, governors, parents and practitioners to ensure positive learning outcomes for childrenand young people in the particular field of specialism.

You will be expected to demonstrate relevant skills and experiences:
**Key Skills**:

- Ability to make sound pragmatic problem-solving decisions which will have a wider service impact. The ability to provide comprehensive professional advice, analyse and make judgements to resolve difficult problems of a technical, professional or peoplerelated nature.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and excellent partnership working skills with leaders, managers, practitioners and other agencies to deliver objectives
- Ability to challenge existing practices and identify innovative solutions to improve learning outcomes for children and young people.
- Ability to forward plan, set timescales and meet challenging targets and objectives, taking appropriate action where these are not being met.
- Effective evaluation and analytical skills to monitor and review effectiveness of provision, teaching and learning. Excellent inclusive practice and teaching skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written), with the ability to successfully influence and negotiate effective outcomes, demonstrated through the development and delivery of a range of strategies for practitioners to adopt toimprove outcomes.

**Qualifications and/or experience**:

- Educated to degree level with Qualified teacher status.
- Specialist SEN qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Further qualifications and/or experience in an advisory role - Desirable
- Extensive experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities in either a secondary environment or as a member of the Senior Leadership Team in a primary school.
- Recent successful teaching experience.
- Experience of providing training relating to special educational needs and inclusive education - Desirable
- Recent experience of multi-disciplinary initiatives relating to children with special needs.
- Proven expertise in the implementation of the statutory SEN processes and Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
- Clear understanding of the role of the special educational needs team within the LA.
- Knowledge of recent government papers and legislation relating to special educational needs.
- Knowledge of the LA policies and procedures for identifying, assessing and meeting special educational needs.
- Understanding of the importance of working in partnership with parents, school staff and voluntary agencies.
- Knowledge of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal.
- Experience of pursuing individual learning targets and monitoring progress for pupils with EHCPs.
- Sound and accurate IT knowledge to enhance teaching and learning and effectively monitor service delivery.
