**About the Role**
South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is the alcohol and drug service in South Tyneside for adults. South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service works in partnership with Spectrum, led by Humankind.
- SMART Recovery is a four-point programme focussing on any form of addictive behaviour, through building and maintaining motivation, managing thoughts, feelings and emotions, coping with urges and building a balanced lifestyle. SMART focusses on future recovery success rather than past experiences. Training will be given.
- This exciting volunteer role would suit someone with an empathetic, non-judgmental attitude who can build strong working relationships with others
- The volunteer will be supporting the established SMART groups which take place within South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service each week. Monday 9.30am - 12noon & Thursdays 12.30pm - 3pm.
- **Tasks will include**:
Share a group agreement at the start of each session, including respect and confidentiality.
- Reporting any concerns, including safeguarding that may arise in the group.
- Work closely with the group worker to plan and evaluate sessions.
- Running meetings according to the SMART Recovery Meeting Structure
- Procure necessary resources such as flip chart, paper and pens, tea and coffee if facilities available.
- Support the Group Worker with any tasks linked to the running of the SMART group.

- Organised.

- Honest and committed.
- Good time keeper.
- Able to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to instruction.
- Non-judgmental towards people who have experienced substance misuse.
- Clear understanding of importance of confidentiality.
- Some experience of working with vulnerable adults.
- An understanding of Humankind - information is available on our website, and you can call a specific project to make enquires.
- A genuine interest in being part of the mission and vision of Humankind.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to Humankind policies, engage in supervision, and complete relevant training.
- Confident in communicating with both service users and workers.
- We ask that you can commit to the specific times set out above.
- **Desirable Criteria**
Experience of working / volunteering with adults at risk / with support needs related to drug/alcohol use.
- Confident in lone working and/or speaking with public.
