PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To work as an equal and active member of the Nursery school team to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. In consultation with parents/carers and SENCO, and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, plan and provide for individual children; ensure that each child’s cognitive, social and emotional needs are met.

2. To plan and deliver focused learning opportunities for individual children and to carry out focused tasks from individual SEND action plans.

3. To help extend the nursery curriculum for the children by participating in outings and trips and to support the nursery team in the outside curriculum to ensure the children have access to all areas of the nursery.

4. To maintain confidential files, reports and developmental records for assessment purposes. Consult with parents/carers so that their involvement in the nursery can be maintained to the highest level. The support worker will be required to contribute to reports prepared for network meetings and case reviews.

5. To work with the key workers, home visit families, to discuss each child’s individual needs. To encourage parents to be active partners in their child’s learning. To ensure that parents are fully supported to access the full range of the nursery services.

6. To offer a support and advocacy service to all parents and act as a link to other support services available to parents at the nursery.

7. To implement the Centre’s policies of inclusion and diversity and those of the County Council.

8. To participate in supervision and appraisal. To take part in relevant training and group meetings as appropriate to enhance personal and professional development and practice.

9. To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, and to comply with the policies and procedures relating to health and safety within the nursery.

10. To follow the principles of safeguarding and safer recruitment in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

11. To carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description. The Job Description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the past holder and identifies a level of responsibility at which they will be required to work. In the interests of effective working, the major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing departmental needs and circumstances. Such reviews, and any consequential changes, will be carried out during consultation.
