Head of Audio Visual and Unified Communications

The Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities [DTEF] is responsible for ‘providing outstanding work, study, research facilities, and facilities to enhance the student experience, on campus and online’.
This role is part of IT Services, specifically their Customer Engagement section and will be responsible for Audio Visual & Unified Communications. The Audio Visual team provides equipment and support to teaching & learning spaces, meeting rooms, social spaces, conferences & events as well as maintaining and upgrading all AV infrastructure. The Unified Communications team provides integrated communication services such voice, mobile, video conferencing and instant messaging
**Role**:
An exciting new post that brings together two teams delivering technology infrastructure and services to staff and students to enable their working, learning and research.
Reporting to the Assistant Director IT Services for Customer Engagement, you will be responsible for the strategic development and management of services and for leading and developing a team of technical and support specialists.The purpose of this role is to provide leadership to teams of technical specialists. You will contribute to the success of our services through skillful leadership, inspiring the teams to grow further by collaborative and high-trust management, ensuring that the teams deliver services to agreed standard.
**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:
- Experience of a leadership role within an AV or technology related service
- Good understanding of the AV/UC landscape and the current trends and directions in service and events delivery
- Ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the department and the services it runs
- The ability to evaluate complex hardware/software options and make recommendations on the basis of a variety of best fit models
- Highly developed influencing, advocacy negotiation and facilitation skills
- Proven problem solving skills and the ability to think laterally
- Excellent people management skills with the ability to lead teams across multiple disciplines
- Ability to delegate and empower staff to take decisions and initiate improvements
- Experience of managing staff in a highly technical environment
- Experience of budget setting and monitoring
- Experience of Supplier management and engagement
- Experience of Running large scale procurement
- Experience of working with non-technical staff to advise on technical requirements or solve complex problems
