- Job description- This is an exciting challenge for an experienced hydrometry and telemetry officer. An expert who will work as part of a team to provide high quality, accurate and timely hydrometric data to a range of customers and stakeholders.
You’ll take responsibility for running the hydrometric network in East Midlands - planning routine site visits for junior colleagues, as well as identifying faults and carrying out and co-ordinating repairs. You will manage minor capital and revenue projects where required. The role will also put you at the heart of our response to any major incidents. The role will be split between field and office, with travel to Trentside office required at least once a week.
In addition your duties will include working closely with our internal functions, running stakeholder boards and managing our external partnership with the Met Office. You will take an active role during incident response and carry out training and mentoring of less senior team members.
Incident response remains a top priority for the Environment Agency. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- Working with the Environment Agency means protecting and improving the environment and tackling issues of national importance. We’re based across England, and our responsibilities span industry regulation, flood risk management, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation.
Our Hydrometry and Telemetry team manage, maintain and improve the hydrometric monitoring network. We provide high-quality hydrometric data to a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders. This data underpins many of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities.
- Experience/skills required Has an environmental or science-based degree (or equivalent).
- Enjoys working out in the field, covering a large geographical area.
- Has proven experience in hydrometric monitoring.
- Has evidence of undertaking Hydrometric training courses.
- Has an aptitude for solving problems.
- Is a natural communicator.
- Has excellent team working and IT skills.
- Holds a full UK driving licence.

Local knowledge would also be very useful - but a background in hydrometry is essential for the role.
