Summer Course Teaching Role

London, United Kingdom Armirate Education Limited Full time

**Summer Teacher Job Description**

**Interactive English Summer Programme**

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new concept in summer courses - an English-language programme in China for Chinese students, supported by native speakers of English.

The syllabus itself focuses on a different topic each day with the aim of encouraging optimal English language development. It consists of a lead seminar, followed by language activities, visits to places of interest in the area, and workshops from outside speakers.

The role of the teacher is to work with a class of up to 20 teenagers to help them prepare for and respond to the challenges of the ‘topic of the day’. This involves teaching in the mornings; overseeing events, visits and workshops in the afternoons; and working together with local (Chinese) teachers to create an interactive learning environment both inside and outside the classroom.

Topics of the day:
British culture & Etiquette

Silk Roads - East meets West

Oxbridge - aiming for excellence

Medicine and Health

Kings, Queens & Emperors

Early Civilisations

Science & technology

Art, poetry and music

Climate change and eco-systems

World Book Choices

**Key duties of a teacher**
- Attend orientation and induction sessions prior to departure
- Understand and deliver the aims and structure of the syllabus
- Encourage students to respond actively and creatively to the topic of the day
- Provide English-language support with students’ responses - both written and oral
- Assess progress and provide feedback as appropriate
- Assist with supervision outside the classroom as required
- Work co-operatively with locally-based teaching, activity and pastoral staff.

This summer, we are recruiting teachers for 2 two-week courses over four consecutive weeks. We are looking for graduates, preferably with teaching experience and qualifications (PGCE, TEFLI, TEFLQ). You must be ready to:

- adapt to the working pattern in Lanzhou and be energetic, enthusiastic and empathetic.
- undergo Disclosure and Barring Service checks (or equivalent) and online safeguarding training.
- travel to China 3 days before the course to allow for acclimatisation, orientation and induction. (which is paid at the training rate £11.50 per hour).

**Place of Work**: Lanzhou Oriental Secondary School, Lanzhou, Gansu, China

**Contract**: Two or four consecutive weeks between 12 July and 09 August 2024

**Contact hours**: 30 hours per week

**Remuneration**: Between £545 and £610 per week inclusive, paid at the end of the contract.

**Other benefits include**:

- Visa for entry to China and personal insurance for travel, belongings and medical emergencies;
- 2-way flight between LHR and Lanzhou, with transit via Beijing (open-ended return if desired);
- food and accommodation in a shared flat with single-use bedroom in Lanzhou;
- advice on travel options within China at the end of your stay.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £545.00-£610.00 per week

Expected hours: 30 per week

Expected start date: 11/07/2024
