A unique opportunity has arisen within the Criminal Justice & Liaison & Diversion (CJLD) service, for a Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Paramedic or Speech and Language Therapist OR those with specialist knowledge and relevant mental health experience to work as part of our new Voluntary Attendance service. You must be educated to degree level in an area particularly relevant to mental health and/or criminal justice processes.

CJLD provides high quality mental health and vulnerability screening and specialist assessment to people of all ages who become involved in the criminal justice system. The base for this post is likely to be a Lincoln base. The practitioner will be expected to occasionally travel countywide depending upon service need.

You will have knowledge of both the criminal justice and mental health systems, and experience of working with people who are at risk of poor health and social care outcomes.

You will have meticulous attention to detail in gathering and recording health, social circumstances, and risk information, sometimes under pressure. You will be able to develop clear risk management plans, and ensure safe care and treatment pathways for the vulnerable people you assess as they leave police interviews, whether to be charged/remanded in the future, or returning to potentially complex situations in the community.

Your written assessments will effectively support agencies to understand and respond to the assessed person's needs appropriately, including advising on appropriate disposals.

To work alongside and collaborate with Lincolnshire Police in identification of individuals attending for voluntary interview and in offering L&D services.

To accept referrals for VA assessment through an agreed process with Police and offer timely assessments liaising with police as to progress.

To carry out L&D assessments to individuals prior to police interview or as soon afterwards as possible.

Ability to formulate a risk assessment and risk management plan.

To provide L&D assessments, advice and identify robust care pathways for individuals where a potential vulnerability has been identified. This involves requirement to work across a large geographical area offering flexibility in location of assessments to suit individual needs.

To provide the criminal justice system with written information pertaining to the individual in a timely fashion to inform disposal. This includes providing specialist complex advice where indicated.

To work closely and build links with all referring agencies within criminal justice pathways acting as a single point of contact for health.

To refer to the persons General Practitioner, appropriate primary, secondary, specialist or statutory service provider for support/treatment.

To make recommendations to the CPS/Police or Courts whether the criminal justice system remains involved or if diversion is indicated.

To build a good working knowledge of the MHA in relation to the police, magistrates courts and criminal justice system.

To offer individuals assessed support through L&D peer support whilst they are involved with the criminal justice system.

To raise awareness of L&D services across the criminal justice system and in particular the VA pathway through training.

To be responsible for adhering to all LPFT Policies and Procedures

Communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals with identified vulnerabilities.

To work autonomously, with the ability to organize and manage own time according to delegated workload.

To take accountability for own professional practice.
