Buckfastleigh, United Kingdom APEM Full time

**About The Role**:
Are you an experienced marine mammal specialist looking for a new challenge? Do you want to be part of a company that is making a real difference in the world, providing sustainable solutions to today's environmental challenges? GoBe consultants, part of APEM group, are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Marine Mammal Consultant to join and lead our growing Marine Mammal team

As senior consultant, you will be working across some of the largest and most exciting development projects in the UK energy sector. You will provide expert advice, data interpretation, and reporting for assessments related to marine mammal ecology, impact assessments, and related technical studies to clients and key stakeholders.

In this role, you will also be responsible for managing projects and delegating tasks to more junior members of staff, as well as providing mentoring and guidance as line manager for the marine mammal team.

In terms of the location, the most important thing for us is attracting the right person; therefore we can offer flexibility on this. Hybrid working is preferred, at our offices in either Buckfastleigh, Devon or Glasgow, or we are open to remote working if preferred.

**You will have**:

- A degree (preferably an MSc) in a relevant discipline
- An established track record in marine mammal ecology derived from a relevant career in consultancy, research, or working for government.
- Working knowledge of the technical assessments underpinning marine mammal work in support of development projects and through the EIA and HRA processes (ideally related to offshore wind development)
- Experience in marine mammal visual survey or mitigation work
- An understanding of survey design, choice of instrumentation, and deployment methods used for passive acoustic monitoring (PAM), with experience in the processing and analysis of acoustic and other data.

**Desirable**:

- Experience leading a team and knowledge of relevant responsibilities
- Familiarity with the process of impact assessment, including ecological impact assessment (EcIA), environmental impact assessment (EIA), Habitats Regulations assessment (HRA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA), and marine mammal risk assessment (MMRA) would be beneficial.

You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects. Many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them and have also taken on work to improve consultancy skills that have aided their career. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, to access to mental health first aiders and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work. We also offer superb flexible working options, balancing work with your life.

**Next steps**

We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area - we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills.
