London, United Kingdom Hestia Housing Support Full time

**Recovery & Mental Health Worker**:

- Job Reference: 1322169059-2
- Date Posted: 11 May 2024
- Recruiter: Hestia Housing Support
- Location: Wandsworth, London
- Salary: £26,873
- Sector: Business development, Print
- Job Type: Permanent

**We are Hestia. We make a difference.**

At Hestia, we live by our values and are committed to a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation that provides a variety of services such as Domestic Abuse, Modern Slavery, Mental Health & Complex Needs and Criminal Justice. We are committed to empower people to rebuild their lives and regain independence.

**The service you will work in.**

Approved Premises (AP) work with the highest-risk offenders and provide a vital element in public protection arrangements. AP offer a stepping stone' from prison to more mainstream community life with a level of contact, support and supervision that does not exist anywhere else in the probation service.

Residents are seen on a daily basis and staff become involved in the resident's life to a very high degree: giving advice and offering support whilst exercising control and supervision, all the time liaising with the rest of the probation service and a wide range of agencies. This intense level of contact is what enables AP staff to monitor residents' well-being, to tailor support and to be aware of their actions and changes in their behaviour in a way that no other intervention can.

The role of AP staff is to encourage and facilitate residents to do all that they can for themselves, rather than to do the work for them. AP staff are not employed to work for residents, but to empower and enable them to do things for themselves. AP staff do not organise most residents' lives or time for them. Although some do require help in this aspect of their lives residents have freedom, including the freedom to make mistakes, even if there are negative consequences for them. Staff make residents aware of their responsibilities.

**A day in this role looks like.**

As an Intervention Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Criminal Justice service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

- Modelling pro-social behaviour and attitudes, helping to create and maintain a positive culture of respect in all work inside and outside of the service with both clients and colleagues.
- Actively engaging with clients and providing opportunities to do so including preparation of supper and breakfast.
- Contributing to delivery of the sentence plan in conjunction with colleagues in probation, the police and other external agencies.
- Following protocols, encouraging compliance and taking enforcement action as necessary, in particular around drug and alcohol testing requirements and curfews.
- Actively monitoring and maintaining the health, safety, security, cleanliness and hygiene of the Approved Premises and the well-being of its occupants utilising information sharing, CCTV, direct observation, inspection, personal contact and other methods, as appropriate.
- Using initiative to identify and deal with additional tasks or issues as they arise.
- In all aspects of their work staff are expected to:

- work within the service to maintain the Enabling Environment, adhere to operational requirements detailed in the latest Approved Premises Manual, in print or on EQUIP, work within Hestia's policies and procedures where these don't conflict with requirements of the Ministry of Justice or Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service, and actively, consistently demonstrate The Hestia Approach Approved Premises (AP) work with the highest-risk offenders, whilst providing a vital element in public protection arrangements.

**Why Hestia?**

Joining Hestia means more than just a job; it's an opportunity to be part of something bigger. We offer a supportive, inclusive and resolution driven work environment where your contributions are recognised and valued. As a member of our team, you will have the chance to grow both personally and professionally while making a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.
