**Job overview**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior clinical fellow to join our busy Ophthalmology team at Epsom and St Helier hospital, undertaking sessions in paediatric ophthalmology, neuro ophthalmology, the acute eye service and paediatric and adult theatre.

This post is for 10 sessions per week, Monday to Friday across Epsom and St Helier sites.

Please contact Ms Charlotte Funnell, Consultant Ophthalmologist with special interests in neuro-motility, paediatric ophthalmology, cataract and squint surgery, for further information.

**Main duties of the job**:
Working closely with the 3 paediatric ophthalmology consultants and the clinical team to provide a comprehensive service for patients referred to the Ophthalmology Department or attending the Acute Eye Service. This will include all aspects of treatment, including training in adult cataract surgery and adult and paediatric strabismus surgery.

Working closely with the 3 paediatric ophthalmology consultants and the clinical team to provide a comprehensive service for patients referred to the Ophthalmology Department, including the acute eye service. This will include all aspects of treatment, including training in adult cataract surgery and adult and paediatric strabismus surgery.

**Qualifications and Training**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Hold a medical qualification or qualification registered with the GMC and a licence to practice
- Ophthalmology at a minimum equivalent level of ST3 or above
- Commitment to continuing professional development

**Desirable criteria**:

- MRCOphth /FEBO or equivalent
- Appropriate higher medical qualification i.e. FRCOphth /FRCS or equivalent.
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications
- Research experience

**Clinical Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Experience of working within a busy paediatric ophthalmic service
- Experience in the management of ophthalmic emergencies
- Ability, understanding and willingness to work within Trust and NHS performance framework and targets

**Desirable criteria**:

- Independent cataract surgeon
- Experience of service organisation and development

**Communication Skills**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
