**Job Purpose**

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the postholder will be an integral part of the Senior Management Team with the responsibility for the finance function and working with colleagues to develop and embed organisational strategy in line with our values. This includes not only optimum service delivery but equally to drive Rural Support in the achievement of its mission.

This role will see the successful person lead, manage and develop the finance function of the organisation. The post-holder will ideally hold a professional accounting qualification or able demonstrate qualified by experience.

**Key aspects of Role**
- **Senior Management Team (SMT)**_

Member of Senior Management Team (SMT).
- Working with the rest of SMT and their teams and other stakeholders in order to evaluate overall performance against targets and make necessary adjustments as is necessary.
- Be an active, integrated and cohesive member of the Senior Management Team in order to contribute fully to strategy development and delivery.
- Development of regular reports and delivery of presentations to senior strategy management leadership, executives, and regular stakeholders.
- Participate in, and contribute to, the organisation’s planning arrangements and support the implementation of and commitment to quality standards and continuous improvement.
- Plan, implement and monitor new initiatives and development needs and ensure that risk is managed appropriately.
- Develop implementation plans that are outcome focussed ensuring targets are met through regular monitoring and supervision.
- Establish collaborative and trusting relationships with the organisation’s key internal leaders and stakeholders in order to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas and information across the business, leading to suitable strategy formulation and overall business performance enhancement.
- Work with SMT to ensure adequate and appropriate personnel are recruited, retained and developed to deliver the charity’s service contracts.
- Work with the SMT in the delivery of organisational and cultural change activities.
- **Financial Matters**_
- Oversee financial Performance, budgeting strategy and forecasting.
- Development of appropriate financial systems and contribute to the development of management reporting systems.
- Lead on all areas relating to financial matters including:

- Book-keeping and Accounting
- Management Reporting
- General Budgeting/Review
- Bank Payments/Receipts
- Payroll
- Procurement
- Project Budgeting/Review
- **Departmental**_
- Manage and lead the finance functions within the organisation, ensuring that they are implemented to a high standard.
- Coordinate the work and monitor workloads of the Finance Team (as it develops).
- Work positively to enhance engagement/rapport with employees to develop their potential and build team spirit.
- Under the direction of the charity’s policy framework, advise and support direct reports to resolve employee relations issues arising including grievance, disciplinary, performance management and sickness absence cases etc.
- **Governance**_
- Work with our auditing partners ensure that all statutory returns are completed in a timely and effective manner, including those in relation to PAYE and pensions, and that appropriate compliance dates are met for the Charities Commission and Companies House.
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts, provide appropriate support and assistance to the organisation’s auditors.
- Ensure that the organisation maximises its financial performance across the broad range of activities including long term financial planning.
- Lead and support a culture of continuous improvement by ensuring critical performance management cycles are effective and executed to time i.e.. support, supervision, appraisal.
- Pay attention to detail by checking requirements, identifying needs, meeting timescales and make sure that the relevant information goes to the relevant people (including 3rd parties).
- Maintain information securely ensuring that it complies with the Data Protection Act including GDPR and internal policies and procedures.

- Maintain own professional standards and commit to professional self-development as necessary for successful delivery of the post.
- Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required, consistent with the nature and grade of the post.
- **Management Responsibilities **_This post will be responsible for the management and supervision of the finance team (as it develops) and for supervision of any work undertaken by the Operations and Strategic Development team that relates to financial matters.
- **Team Working **_Team working is an essential component of this post.
