**Job Title**: Senior Residential Care Worker (Children & Young People)

**Reports to**: Registered Manager

**Location**: Reading

**Salary**:£13.50-£15.50 per hour, + On call and Sleep ins

**Hours**:Shift rota, 07:30 - 21:30 with sleeps ins where required.

**Responsible for**: Other home colleagues

**Main Contacts**: Children, Young people and their families, Social Workers, Team Managers, Relevant specialists/professionals

**Main Purpose of the Job**:

- Work in alignment with Cornerstone Children’s Homes Vision, Mission, and Values.
- Safeguard and the welfare of children and young people always.
- Coordinate and assist in the daily activities of the home.
- Provide a stable, safe, and secure environment for vulnerable and challenging children and young people.
- Offer support to families, carers, and relatives of those in the home.
- Ensure full implementation of home policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues and respond to the needs of the immediate community.

**Main Tasks**:
**Children & Young People**:

- Assist in establishing, publicizing, and maintaining policies and procedures of the home.
- Maintain effective standards of personal, social, and emotional care for children.
- Assist in admissions and discharges from the home.
- Provide and manage an outreach service for young people and their families.
- Maintain up-to-date and relevant information regarding young people and LAC documentation.

**Cornerstone Children’s Homes**:

- Use available resources to provide a multi-agency care approach for each young person.
- Develop and review the provision regularly.
- Provide a flexible and proactive service to meet the needs of young people.
- Encourage and involve young people in house meetings.
- Ensure that staff work within a theoretical and knowledge-based framework.
- Handle complaints in accordance with Cornerstone Children’s Homes procedures.

**Management**:

- Participate in the selection and recruitment of colleagues and Provide induction for newly appointed colleagues.
- Prepare probationary reports for newly appointed colleagues.
- Lead, motivate, supervise, support, and monitor the team of colleagues.
- Identify individual training and development needs, conduct colleague appraisals, and manage training and development plans.
- Organize regular team meetings and ensure effective communication within the team.
- Ensure effective dissemination of information and advice.
- Implement and manage a workable rota.
- Consult with colleagues to ensure a balanced diet is provided.
- Handle disciplinary and grievance matters in line with Cornerstone Children’s Homes policy and procedure.

**Administration**:

- Maintain appropriate and effective records.
- Control and manage the home's budgets.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, health and safety, food hygiene, and medication administration and maintain the home's physical condition and surroundings.
- Ensure familiarity with administrative procedures and the need for confidentiality and GDPR compliance.

**Community**:

- Liaise with other agencies and professions providing services to children in care.
- Maintain positive links with other Department services.
- Consult with children, young people, and their relatives, carers, and advocates regarding care.
- Represent the home at multi-agency and community meetings.
- Have knowledge of discrimination and disadvantages experienced by young people and actively promote these.

**Working Practice**:

- Implement all working practices to ensure colleagues and young people are aware of health and safety regulations
- Update risk assessments as needed.
- Understand and implement child protection and safeguarding procedures.
- Hold a full driving license with own vehicle and car insurance with business use.

Pay: £13.50-£15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
