- 112023-675Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Assurance Officer within the DSaAS Academic Services team.

The Directorate of Student and Academic Services (DSaAS) leads on the development and provision of outstanding student facing services. The Directorate is responsible for ensuring that students have an excellent experience and provides services across the student and academic lifecycle from enrolment to graduation, covering everything from wellbeing services to ensuring new courses are set up correctly. The Directorate is at the centre of a transformation programme as we seek to make services which underpin our student experience more efficient and effective.

The Quality Assurance Officer will undertake a broad range of quality assurance functions in respect of the initial approval, ongoing management and periodic review of academic provision and is a key stakeholder working with course leads, internal Colleges and Faculty executive teams. The post holder will be instrumental at Faculty level in driving forward newly developed quality assurance processes which underpin key OfS regulatory metrics B3 and APP.

**Main Duties**

The role of Quality Assurance Officer covers a wide range of quality assurance and enhancement activities including:

- Management and co-ordination of:

- course development and approval/re-approval events;
- curriculum modifications;
- continuous course monitoring and enhancement;
- periodic review;
- initial accreditation and re-accreditation of courses.
- Provision of expert advice and guidance on University regulations, policies and procedures
- Oversight and day-to-day management of the Faculty’s definitive curriculum documentation

**Skills and Experience**

Many of the activities listed above will require the postholder to act as an Event Officer (Panel Secretary). Proven experience of advising and guiding Panels on matters of policy and regulation and the completion of high-quality written reports of approval events and/or minutes of Faculty/University Committees is therefore essential.

A good understanding and working knowledge of key external reference points such as the Office for Students’ conditions of registration, QAA UK Quality Code, CMA guidance and their articulation in a UK HE context is also essential.

An important aspect of the role is the ability to develop effective and productive working relationships with Faculty staff, including senior academic staff and the Faculty Executive Group. Prior experience of working effectively in partnership with Faculty staff and providing high quality support for a range of quality assurance activities is therefore highly desirable.

As the postholder you will also be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of quality assurance policy and procedures and University regulations. Previous experience of contributing to policy and procedural developments in this area and an awareness of sector good practice would therefore be advantageous.

**The person**

You must have a keen eye for detail and the ability to assimilate and evaluate data and information quickly to provide informed advice. You will also be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate, persuade and influence colleagues within the Faculty, the wider academic community and other professional service departments within the University.

The role involves working as part of a busy wider team so you will be expected to manage a wide range of tasks and your time proactively and efficiently.

Educated to degree level, with experience of working within a quality assurance team is essential. You will also need well-developed ICT skills and be a proficient user of the full suite of Microsoft Office software.
