**Department of Health Sciences**:
The Mental Health and Addiction Research Group wishes to appoint a Research Assistant to work on a new National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Programme Development Grant. This work is an extension of the ongoing DIAMONDS (Diabetes and mental illness - improving outcomes and services) programme. We have been able to offer participation in the trial to individuals from South Asian communities who do not speak English and/or prefer communicating in Urdu and are therefore looking for a Research Assistant to join this new project “DIAMONDS URDU (**U**nderstanding **R**each and **D**elivery in **U**rdu)”

The post presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and highly motivated person to start their own career in an excellent research environment.

To fulfil this role, fluent written and spoken Urdu and English language skills are essential. Knowledge of other South Asian languages or dialects such as Punjabi, Mirpuri, and/or Bangladeshi is desirable. In addition, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and an outstanding commitment to high quality work and attention to detail are essential. Experience of working with South Asian community groups is advantageous.

Ideally, you will be able to work on-site at the University of York (Heslington West campus) at least one day per week. However, in certain circumstances a fully remote working arrangement may be considered. Travel to study sites across the North of England to conduct data collection may be required.

Appointment is based on a successful enhanced Disclosing and Barring check. You will be expected to comply with University of York policies concerning security, safety and participant confidentiality.

**Role**:
You will be responsible for supporting participant recruitment, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and intervention fidelity assessment under supervision of the principal investigator and other colleagues. You will also contribute to project outputs in Urdu and English. This role is offered on a part time basis (25.90 hours per week) and is fixed term for a period of 12 months.

**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:

- Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list). We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
- Fluent in Urdu (written and spoken) and ability to translate accurately between English and Urdu
- Working knowledge of other South Asian languages and dialects, e.g. Punjabi, Mirpuri, and/or Bangladeshi is desirable.
- Good project coordination, planning and organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and an outstanding commitment to high quality work and attention to detail.
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats, including the use of a variety of digital tools.
- An understanding of working within data protection and ethical guidelines
