**Department of Health Sciences**:
Funded by Cancer Research UK and Blood Cancer UK, HMRN was established by ECSG and their clinical collaborators in 2004 with the aim of providing accurate population-based research outputs on the occurrence, treatment and survival of patients with haematological cancers. HMRN’s patient cohort comprises of individuals diagnosed with haematological cancers (currently 38,000), and its general population cohort comprising unaffected individuals (currently 180,000).

**Role**:
As an experienced epidemiologist/statistician, you will become a member of the HMRN multidisciplinary team and carry out epidemiological/statistical research in the area of haematological cancers. With a knowledge of routine national data such as Hospital Episode Statistics you will undertake data management and analysis of observational data for the production of audit reports, routine statistics for the study’s website and for research publications. You will work individually and collaboratively, with guidance from HMRN lead. Finally, you will provide guidance to staff and students, as required.
**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:
You will have:
- In-depth knowledge in the analyses of observational data
- Knowledge of NHS processes including around routine national datasets such as Hospital Episode Statistics
- Ability to manage and analyse complex haematological data derived from medical records and national data including Hospital Episode Statistics
- Knowledge of cancer/epidemiology to engage in high quality research
- Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies
- Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
- Ability to write up research for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
- Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required
- Competency to conduct individual and collaborative research projects
- Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds, with collaborators if required
- Competency to make presentations at conferences or other appropriate events
- Experience of managing and analysing large observational datasets containing prognostic, treatment, resource utilisation and outcome data
- Experience of working with software packages such as Stata and/or SQL
- Experience of writing up research work for audit and publication
- Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research
- Ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using own initiative
