We are looking for a Senior Team Leader to lead our National Water Quality Instrumentation Service (NWQIS) that collects and analyses continuous (24 hours) water quality data for the Environment Agency.
There is significant political and media interest in the water quality of our rivers and the monitoring work that this team does. This is leading to an increased customer ask of NWQIS. There is also a shift from more traditional sampling techniques to the techniques used by this team. The shift in monitoring is happening externally too with Water Companies required to put in place continuous monitoring downstream of their discharges. This is leading to an increased focus on the work of this team internally and externally.
You will set the strategic direction for the team and lead on customer engagement, supplier and contract management and support for team members. You will have overall responsibility for NWQIS assets, contract management, commercial activity and managing the teams budget including commercial income.
You will be a member of both the Management and Leadership Team for the wider Instruments and Systems team. In these roles you will be able to help set direction across wider disciplines including air monitoring, hydrometry, telemetry and monitoring IT systems.
- The team- NWQIS is responsible for:

- maintaining and calibrating around 1,500 Water Quality monitoring instruments
- building and deploying continuous monitoring solutions for water quality investigations
- providing data analysis, advise and guidance on continuous monitoring data.

There are 21 members of the team which include 1 Team Leader, 2 Specialists and 18 officers. 8 of the team members will report to you including the Team Leader.
- Experience/skills required- We are looking for an experienced leader that is passionate about getting the best out of their team and making sure that environmental evidence is at the heart of our decision making.

- Providing strategic leadership by clarifying outcomes and ensuring they are delivered through work plans
- Championing new ways of working to improve efficiency & effectiveness and enable continuous improvement.
