Leek, United Kingdom SME Graduate Employment Full time

Too much carbon is bad for the environment. But you already know that; and you want to do something about it. Here's your chance...

This Staffordshire based chemical business is on a mission to reduce their carbon footprint by 90% by 2040; they already have some plans in place, but in this newly created role you can take this to the next level.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The business has factories and distribution hubs in the UK and abroad; they import raw materials, and sell stock globally. So, quite a carbon footprint
- and they want to do something about it.

You'll be using your vision to plan a sustainability strategy, with the aim of reducing emissions, and implementing sustainable development.

You'll be gathering and analysing loads of data, and producing reports. Then presenting the findings to people across the business, right to the top. Everyone will know who you are, and will see the great work you're doing.

You'll also be doing the initial scoping for Life Cycle Assessments; these are done on all aspects of the business, and can help colleagues to make informed decisions.

For example, which is better for the carbon footprint: buying raw materials that are natural, but from Asia; or something synthetic from France, and with less distance to transport? A supplier may need to be changed as a result.

There is also a Regulatory and Compliance aspect. In the beginning this will be the main part of your role; though as time goes on you will be doing more and more Sustainability related work.

You'll be producing and updating product information sheets; and tracking amounts of chemicals that come into, and go out of the country.

There will be safety data to gather, and risk assessments to be done. All with the aim of making sure that chemicals that go to customers across the World are safe.

And you'll be liaising with those customers; including some of the World's leading manufacturers of perfumes.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Some degree types are more relevant than others: Sustainability, Environmental, Toxicology, or Chemistry, related would be ideal.

But other degrees are ok, if you can demonstrate suitability in other ways. Again, some may be more suitable than others; for example Business, or Law.

Some people find data gathering and analysis boring, but not you; you're happy doing this, and love to put reports together.

You've also got plenty of confidence, and great communication skills; together with a keen eye for detail.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

A starting salary of around £25,000. If all goes well you could be on £30,000 in a year or two.

You'll get plenty of training and development from your Manager and colleagues. And in time, you may even be able to recruit and develop your own team.

WHERE YOU WILL BE DOING IT

The location is in Leek, and is commutable from areas including Macclesfield, Stoke, Buxton, and Ashbourne. You’ll need to be within commuting distance, or easily able to relocate due to connections there.

You'll need to be in the office full-time for at least the first 3 months, but after that there could be scope to work from home for 2-3 days a week.

SOUND LIKE YOU?

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
