Ashington, United Kingdom Northumbria Healthcare - NHCT Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Child Health Carers have a unique role working with some of the most vulnerable children, those with disabilities, chronic illness, palliative care or complex health care needs. The Child Health Carer is trained to support families by taking over the care of the child for an extended period allowing the families respite from that care.

This support is offered in a variety of community locations, including home, education or short break care facility, to suit the assessed needs of each individual child.

This post exposes the Child Health Carers to unpredictable, highly distressing or emotional situations where a child is unwell or where a child may be dying or where a child has died.

To implement care for children aged 0 to 18 years, in the community in Northumberland and North Tyneside, following assessment by and under the direction of a Registered Children's Nurse.

To provide skilled support to children with palliative and complex care needs, and their families, in their own home or other community facility.

To work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team undertaking therapies and interventions as directed by others.

To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

The applicant must have full and valid UK drivers licence and access to their own car.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
