**Senior Interaction Designer **(Inside IR35)**

**Contract Term: 6 months**

**Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office - GDS**

**Location: Hybrid - London/ Manchester/ Bristol - 1-2 days per week**

At the Government Digital Service (GDS), our mission is to build a simple, joined-up and personalised experience of government for everyone. Using our unique position at the centre of government, we develop services that work for the user, however complex the underlying systems may be.We believe that ensuring things work for end users is the only way to realise the efficiencies that come with digital transformation. Our focus is on delivering five missions in the following areas:
1. GOV.UK as the single and trusted online destination for government information and services

2. Joined-up services that solve whole problems and span multiple departments

3. A simple digital identity solution that works for everyone

4. Common tools and expert services

5. Joined-up data across departments

**As a Senior Interaction Designer, your main responsibilities would be**:

- Use research and analytics to understand users needs, identify service failures and test different designs
- Use evidence to challenge assumptions, negotiate with product owners and rationalise your design decisions
- Design collaboratively and in the open, engaging your whole team with the design process and adapting it if necessary
- Set the design direction and good practice within your teams, inspiring, motivating and mentoring more junior designers
- Champion accessibility and inclusion, consider the impact of new technologies and make sure that designs meet accessibility, legal and security requirements
- Encourage knowledge sharing within and between teams, making sure that your designs are reusable and consistent with the GOV.UK Design System
- Contribute to and help maintain and grow the government design community and assess and review the design of other government services

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- Designing services or a design related degree
- Sketching and prototyping in different fidelities
- Working in a fast-paced agile environment
- Explaining design ideas and concepts in a way that other people understand
- Welcome the constructive criticism of their work and be able to constructively review the work of others
- Interpreting user research
- Designing simple, accessible, responsive user interfaces
- Negotiating important design decisions successfully with senior stakeholders
- Engaging the whole multidisciplinary team with the design process
- Helping and coaching more junior designers
