The team requires an Education, Employment and Training Adviser (Youth Justice Service Caseload) to be part of a continued response to challenge inequalities in youth unemployment. The team are looking for professional support for 16-25 year old children and young people with experience of the youth justice system that are NEET and wanting to progress into employment as their next destination.

Ideally you will have a track record of breaking down the barriers that prevent young people with youth justice system experience from achieving positive employment, education or training outcomes.

You will be part of a specialist team in delivering a wrap-around programme of support that combines advice and guidance, work experience placements (participant expenses paid), bespoke training and skills opportunities including English and Maths tuition, and trauma informed support.

The role will involve intensive case work with vulnerable children and young people aged 16-25, with a focus on building and sustaining positive working relationships with young people. You should also have a person-centred approach and have an understanding of the impact of childhood trauma, and criminal activity on behaviours and choices.

You will play a key role in developing and shaping the offer in response to the needs of participants, working with a multi-professional team and taking an innovative co-location/ community based and peripatetic approach to delivering support.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To organise and manage a caseload of children and young adults ensuring they are seen as needed, using a personalised, holistic job coaching and mentoring approach to support them in their journey to employment.
- To focus on building confidence and self-esteem and working with children and young people's strengths and to incorporate this as part of their ways of working.
- To be tenacious and determined in supporting clients to achieve their goals and supporting them along the way.
- To work in a community based, peripatetic way, engaging with young people at a range of outreach locations according to local and individual need.
- To assess barriers and skills levels of young people, and identify appropriate pathways that will support their progression towards employment.
- To undertake effective assessment with children and young people through the agreed processes, to establish priorities and aims with each individual. Implement guidance and brokerage skills to meet the agreed priorities and aims.
- To understand the underlying issues and challenges faced by children and young people, and work in a trauma informed way to support them with these matters, and identify and signpost to relevant specialist and support services.
- To build relationships and work pro-actively with key stakeholders including members of the YJS, TYS and I-Can services, promoting the employment offer and sharing information and good practise around supporting children and young people not in education, employment or training (NEET), to become aware of the opportunities the council and local employers provide.
- To develop a meaningful action plan with young people to determine job goals and progress towards the labour market, using coaching methods to empower the young person to take control of their own development and achievements, successfully market themselves to employers and to source jobs, giving them the skills they need to become self-sufficient and less dependent on support services.
- To develop a good understanding of the local labour market and develop the relevant relationships to be able to refer young people, where relevant, to a bespoke programme of opportunities which can consist of functional skills delivery, therapeutic and specialist support services and pre-employment and work experience opportunities to help them build up their skills and prepare for work.
