You will lead on the tactical delivery of both covert and overt intelligence operations relating to national security. The role supports partner intelligence agencies in managing the risk posed-by international terrorism, Northern Ireland-related terrorism, ERWT (Extreme Right Wing Terrorism), LASIT (Left wing and Self-Initiated Terrorism), espionage and other national security issues. It also plays a vital role in ensuring the national counter-terrorism network is effectively linked into local policing.

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified detective with experience of supervising investigative or intelligence work including covert techniques, intelligence development and management of risk.

**Essential role based training**
- The Intelligence department operates 24/7.Outside of core hours the intelligence department requires the support of an on call function and weekend working.
- The post holder should be aware that the role may require exposure to violent, disturbing or extreme material.
- The role requires understanding of the correct investigation and handling of matters relating to the interception of communications, the Official Secrets Act, and such other statutes that the Head of the CTPSE may direct.
- CT Induction Course.
- There may be the requirement for further training to ensure resilience in CTPSE, for example Operations Room manager training; FUSION.

**Required knowledge/skills**
Essential
- A qualified detective with experience supervising investigative or intelligence work including covert techniques, intelligence development and management of risk.
- Proven ability to lead and supervise a team ensuring workload is prioritised efficiently and effectively. Able to assimilate and assess large volumes of information to make sound operational and administrative decisions, dealing with several complex tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to communicate information effectively at strategic and tactical levels and with people at all levels of the organisation, partners and outside agencies.
- Able to recognise sensitive information and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Take ownership for your area of business, be adaptable and flexible to prioritise tasks and organise work yourself in order to respond to the greatest areas of risk and threat.
- Highly motivated to perform the role with little supervision, being able to manage time efficiently, self-task, to work well under pressure and deal with several different issues at once.
