- Job description- Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are a new England-wide system of spatial-strategies, designed to support the restoration and recovery of nature. Each LNRS will map specific opportunities for taking priority action for nature recovery and the use of “nature-based solutions” to address environmental issues like flooding, climate change mitigation and adaptation or poor water quality. Biodiversity Net Gain, legislation being introduced in November 2023 will play a large part of the advisory role, working closely with partners to meet targets and maximise outputs.
In this role you will be part of a multi-agency partnership team developing local nature recovery strategy plans. You will use Environment Agency information and data as well as biodiversity knowledge in order to influence and shape the strategies.
In this role, you will:

- Provide technical direction for strategic work in the local area
- Work with Team Leaders, Officers and technical leaders to drive performance, provide technical leadership to meet KPIs and local priorities
- Deliver environmental compliance and/or environmental outcomes in accordance with current environmental legislation
- Build close working relationships within the Environment Agency and key partners
- Working with area and national teams to ensure LNRS priorities are embedded across wider business activity e.g. influencing Local Plans and driving nature recovery outcomes in the flood risk management programme - Engage and liaise closely with local authorities, Natural England, the Forestry Commission and other catchment partners to maximise opportunities for nature recovery
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You are required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training is given. We will work with you to find a role that suits your interests and circumstances.
- The team- The Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire (GMMC) Biodiversity and Geomorphology team are friendly and supportive. We work closely with multiple teams at an area and national level, including Sustainable Places and Flood and Coastal Risk Management to secure multiple benefits for the environment and its rivers.
In this role you will work closely with multiple internal teams as well as external partners and stakeholders to provide advice, finding the best solutions for nature recovery.

- A proven record of taking initiative using a continuous improvement approach. Provide technical direction to Team Leaders and Team Members
- Be proactive, self-motivated, confident communicator
- A Biodiversity/environmental degree or relevant experience desired
