Summary of the role:
Plays an active role in the planning and delivery of Aegon’s PR strategy. The PR Officer leads on the delivery of projects, shapes Aegon’s PR activity and manages key relationships.
- Responsible for planning and delivery of thought leadership projects, managing associated third party suppliers and costs which typically run into the ten of thousands of pounds
- Manages the relationship with our media monitoring/database and media evaluation supplier ensuring they meet SLA's and deliver on Aegon’s behalf. Effectively responsible for a circa £70k annual supplier cost
- Uses numerical and data skills to take responsibility for Aegon’s analytical PR [i.e. how much individuals are required to save to hit certain financial milestones]. Oversee suits of spreadsheets which require a detailed understanding of the mathematics surrounding pensions
- Manages established relationships with Aegon’s key media journalists/publications & leads on developing responses to their questions
- Supports Head of PR with preparation for major corporate news announcements such as financial results
- Uses industry knowledge and understanding of the media to produce high quality press materials inc press releases, reports, briefing documents
- Authors presentations on behalf of exec members for delivery at public events
- Supports the coordination of marketing and PR activity through regular updates to marketing colleagues on planned activity
- Responsible for reacting to press crises as they as they arise and coordinating responses. Briefs members of the executive on issues and recommends a course of action
- Owns Aegon’s forward planner service and is responsible for populating PR plans with known newshooks. Responsible for c£10k contract
- Supports individual Aegon spokespeople to raise and maximise their profile based on understanding of industry trends and media contacts
- Uses excellent understanding of Government (ONS and HMRC) data, to identify, analyse and then prepare media commentary based on our expectations of trends (employment, pension savings, inflation, earnings growth) so we can then adapt and issue comment within minutes of publication.

Knowledge:

- Strong understanding of the platform/pensions/protection industries
- Strong background in PR - understanding of planning and delivering PR activity
- Knowledge of integrated marketing campaigns and how to maximise activity
- Numerical and data skills including development of bespoke calculation spreadsheets which requires a detailed understanding of the numerics of pensions, auto-enrolment, drawdown, projections and compound interest.

**Experience**:

- Existing journalist relationships
- Strong understanding of crisis management in a PR context
- Ability to identify PR opportunities based on the news agenda
