**As an Innovation Lead your main responsibilities would be**:

- Responsible and accountable for delivery of the programme
- Lead on the process to swiftly identify and understand critical criteria necessary for the successful implementation of relevant IUK / UKRI corporate arrangements as well as any other metrics on which the programme needs to be based
- Lead on and manage a framework for the process of taking innovative / novel concepts to successful, viable commercialisation through support and promotion by relevant partners, bodies and agencies as well as IUK’s Smart Accelerator
- Lead on setting up an effective framework to maximise measurable impact through working closely with relevant IUK teams, sponsors, key partners (including EDGE and KTN), and organisations
- Lead on identifying, mapping and effectively engaging key stakeholders with suitable reporting arrangements where appropriate
- Quickly gain traction in engagement with the broader Research and Innovation eco-systems to stimulate synergies and coherence across initiatives, programmes and challenge teams within and outside of IUK, for higher impact from Smart Accelerator funded deep tech
- Lead on understanding and maximising value of, as well as capitalising on, IUK / UKRI’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion arrangements

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- Completed R&D cycle with a view to effective and successful swift commercialisation, with at least four years in a field related to breakthrough technology and/or deep-tech innovation
- Developing and/or managing projects in areas of science and technology research and entrepreneurship
- Managing actual or portfolios of world class, ground-breaking innovative projects of various sizes resulting in successful commercialisation, exports, growth and return on investment.
- Substantive work that can help in setting up a practical, deliverable and value for money framework assisting funding awardees on their journey from early-stage research to impact. E.g., by working with partners including EDGE and KTN, as well as other govt bodies to maximise chances of sustainable positive business impact, connecting them to other relevant researchers, potential users, businesses, innovators, or investors, to pick-up emerging trends or ensure timely IP protection, know the leading researchers, innovators, and investors; and so be able to quickly pivot projects, launch timely initiatives and identify experts to advise on, for example, technical due diligence
- Developing and championing specific high-risk / high-impact visions for future deep-tech that capitalise on cutting-edge science and emerging trends as well as be able to advise the panel (either directly or through invited experts) on the latter as necessary
- Experience in, and understanding of, how to encourage serendipitous cross-fertilisation between different disciplines (‘hard’ and ‘soft’ ones) or sectors

**Desirable**
- A clear and specific vision for an ambitious deep-tech challenge and its potential
impact: demonstrating personal creativity, drive, and determination to realise the
vision; appreciation of the ‘bigger picture’ from a broad multidisciplinary perspective
- Solid track-record in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in academia or across
academia and business / industry in new and disruptive areas, as illustrated above
- Proven experience in research and innovation management, technology transfer,
entrepreneurship or investment: e.g., in managing high-risk/high-gain science
- towards-technology projects or programmes in substantial technology transfer; in
investment at a Technology Transfer Office, Venture Capital or Corporate Venture
Capital Fund, especially for high-risk ‘deep-tech’.
