To enable the Chaplaincy Service to deliver high quality pastoral, religious and spiritual interventions across mental health and learning disability inpatient units in Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Promote the visibility of the Chaplaincy service as directed by the Lead Chaplain ensuring that clinical contact with patients and staff is prioritised.

To take a lead role where directed in identifying and implementing strategic development and change within the service to meet the needs of patients, relatives, volunteers and staff.

To carry out any other work as directed by the Lead Chaplain.

The provision of high-quality spiritual, pastoral and religious care to service users, family members, carers, staff and volunteers

To respond effectively to service users with complex and significant pastoral, religious and spiritual care needs.

To have a working knowledge of faith/belief systems other than your own in order to support multi-faith working, respecting the validity of people of all faiths and no faith in the delivery of spiritual and pastoral care.

To design and lead services of public/private worship/reflection within the Trust centred, evidence based pastoral and spiritual healthcare as part of an ecumenical and multi-cultural chaplaincy team.

To respond effectively to service users with complex and significant pastoral, religious and spiritual care needs.

To work with the Lead Chaplain to develop and implement departmental strategies, policy and procedure to underpin the work of the Chaplaincy Service

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. To visit patients and staff on the wards and departments regularly and respond appropriately to the spiritual need of patients, their families’ carers and staff.

To work with Chaplaincy Colleagues to promote high quality pastoral and spiritual care utilising the NHS Chaplaincy Guidelines alongside CHCC and UKBHC Standards and Codes of Practice as a guide and resource for personal practice and service development

To use communication skills to provide pastoral, spiritual and religious care to individuals and groups.

To articulate complex specialist knowledge to staff working as part of an MDT.

To participate in training and development opportunities including providing appropriate training and education to staff, students or chaplaincy volunteers as required.

To sustain the physical activity associated with the post, including the ability to respond to referral from across the trust.

To respect and encourage lay/ordained volunteer/bank members of the Chaplaincy team in their particular contribution to the work of the team, and where appropriate supervise their work.

To work collaboratively with colleagues to promote spiritual and pastoral care within the Trust and the wider community, as part of an ecumenical, multi-faith and multi-cultural chaplaincy team.

To build and develop effective links with the wider community including attending relevant internal and/or external meetings relevant to Chaplaincy as required.

To share in the administrative duties necessary to support the day to day running of a busy department and maintain appropriate records.

To liaise with Faith Representatives, in line with Trust policy to facilitate the provision of pastoral, spiritual and religious care.

To prioritise demands on time in respect of urgency of pastoral response, following appropriate Trust policies and procedures.
