An opportunity has arisen with the Medicine Division at Aintree hospital site, for a medical support worker to join the team. The role involves supporting trainee doctors in the delivery and provision of safe patient care. The medical support workers will support foundation doctors across the Medicine Division wards and outpatient areas.

This role will work under the supervision of a registered practitioner and provide support by undertaking core clinical skills that will promote a high standard of care such as venepuncture, cannulation and catheterisation, completion of clinical risk assessments, ordering identified investigations and supporting the ward teams.

The role is an important part of our multi-professional approach to patient focused care. Applicants should possess an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) and have experience of working in a clinical environment.

The ability to work as part of a team and prioritise workload is essential. If you are looking for a new challenge and want to contribute to developing your clinical skills.

Provide support for the trainee and foundation doctors across the medical wards at Aintree hospital.

Carry out core clinic skills including venepuncture, cannualation, bloods and cathetherisation.

Clinical
- Maintain good communication skills with patients and relatives, demonstrating a variety of communication skills.
- Liaise with members of the MDT in relation to patient care
- Update clinical notes on PENS
- Deliver clinical skills and therapeutic care to patients as required within set protocols and procedures as delegated by the clinical teams, following appropriate training and supervision.
- Respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
- Measure, monitor and record the following vital signs; Temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, Oxygen saturation and report adverse signs to a registered nurse/doctor.
- Plan and prioritise own delegated workload.
- Following appropriate ANTT training, supervision and competency sign off will undertake and perform clinical skills to enhance the delivery of patient care e.g. venepuncture, peripheral cannulation, blood cultures, arterial blood gas analysis urinary catheterisation & ECG recording.
- Identify any outstanding screening for VTE, dementia to be completed by trainee doctors.
- To support trainee doctors with e-discharge process and ensure completed in a timely manner.
- To support trainee doctors in the completion of relevant risk assessments e.g. VTE
- Support trainee doctors in ordering investigations and delivering samples to the correct location in a timely manner.
- Deliver high standards of care implementing prescribed treatment plans and make minor changes to patient care with defined parameters.
- To liaise with appropriate departmental staff and the discharge team to optimise the smooth transition of patients throughout their patient pathway.
- Maintain clear, concise and legible documentation and adhere to Trust policies and procedures and clinical protocols pertinent to role.
