The post of Compliance Officer is based in Birmingham City University's Compliance Team which is part of the RIEE professional services department (Research, Innovation, Enterprise & Employability).

This quality-assurance focused role will involve providing assistance, and where appropriate deputising for, the Compliance Manager in providing advice & guidance in relation to compliance for externally funded projects. In addition, the role also involves supporting other members of the Compliance Team with assurance activities focused on project records and audit of projects. A key component of the role includes the ability to assess practices and processes and provide recommendations for improvement to systems and processes.

The Compliance Officer role will support a range of quality assurance, compliance and administrative activities that relate to externally funded projects at Birmingham City University. A more detailed list of activities and responsibilities associated with the role includes:

- Assist the Compliance Manager in providing support in the development, implementation and maintenance of project management to maximise the robustness of the data to meet audit requirements
- Produce review reports and establish systems needed to monitor performance.
- Assist in the maintenance of both financial and non-financial reviews of externally funded projects.
- Attend Vice Chancellor Office (VCO) Project Reviews with Head of Compliance when required and report on potential areas of risk and record actions.
- Provide support in the development and implementation of a Management Information Systems (MIS) in relation to the monitoring of externally funded activity across the University. This will require skills in SharePoint and Excel.
- Develop working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Assist the Compliance Manager with SharePoint administration.
- Assist in disseminating knowledge and good practice on external funding to all faculties and RIE staff.

**Essential Criteria Include**:
**Education**:

- Applicants should possess either at least a 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree or alternatively a relevant professional qualification.

**Experience**:

- Experience of maintaining necessary documentation that may be reviewed internally or externally through review, audit or similar.
- Experience of working with common Microsoft Office software packages including SharePoint and Excel.
- An understanding of risk management
