Promote the welfare of children in care with particular regard for their age, sex, health, race, religion, culture and life experience. Chair professional meetings and other planning/strategy meetings as required.

Key Responsibilities:

- Take responsibility for your personal professional development by maintaining and developing relevant skills and knowledge of current legislation, policy and social work practice through self direct learning and via formal PO route.
- Actively participate in supervision and performance appraisal
- Work with the Head of Service, Service Manager and Team Managers in managing the development of the service ensuring it continues to improve and responds to changing need.
- Work with other managers to ensure practice in the service is of the highest standards and that performance information is readily available, analysed and used to inform current and future working practices.
- Develop professional expertise in a specialist area and contribute to the development of policy and procedures in certain practice areas and offer training workshops and other learning and development opportunities to the service and others as required.
- Ensure that all expenditure on cases is properly authorized and recorded and that cases with financial packages are regularly monitored and reviewed.
- Act as duty manager as required by the team management.
- Report any concerns about abuse or malpractice by colleagues, in line with the Council's Whistle Blowing Policy.
- Ensure that all legislation and local council policies regarding Health and Safety are adhered to.
- Undertake any other temporary duties consistent with the basic duties and/or objectives of the post.

Qualifications:

- Degree or equivalent level of experience Professional qualification in Social Work (Diploma in Social Work, BA/BSc/MA in Social Work, CQSW as required by Health & Care Professions Council)
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English and Maths (C and above)
- Registered with Social Work England

Knowledge:

- Extensive knowledge of current children social work legislation, regulations and policy guidance
- Good working knowledge of electronic case management systems and management information systems within a children’s social care or education setting.
- Understanding of court processes

**Experience**:

- Experience Of Gathering Or Presenting Evidence Or Advice In Public Or In Court.
- Experience of giving evidence at court hearings
- Experience of preparation and drafting court and other legal documents
- Experience of working with and decision-making on complex/high risk cases within the Children’s Social Care arena.
- Experience of working with partners across the public, health and social care sectors Experience of working within and providing information/input to a range of activities related to the Children’s Social Care legal framework e.g.. case conferences, court, looked after children reviews, strategy meetings.
- Experience of working within the legal framework for Children’s Social Care.
- Significant experience of working in statutory children’s social care services
- A minimum of three years post qualified social work experience
- Experience of working with a broad range of people including families, education, social care and health care professionals
- Proven Social Work Experience
- Significant experience in children's social work including looked after children and child protection
- Court work, child-protection work and providing complex care plans to assistant children and young people in need

Skills & Abilities:

- Organised with clear communication skills to present and defend cases at Court.
