Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world.

The Governance and Performance Lead reports to the Chief Education Officer of DCS Schools and Settings, but independently of the ACEOs in Cyprus and RoW.

This post is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The Schools and Settings Service, DCS(SAS), support the provision of high-quality care and education for Service children and entitled personnel in DCS schools and Settings across the world. The Service is led by the Chief Education Officer of DCS Schools and Settings. The 15 schools and 7 settings are situated in locations to support the effective deployment of accompanied Service and MOD personnel. Our schools and settings overseas mirror the English education system including inspections, assessments and examinations, and Queen Victoria School mirrors the Scottish system. This enables pupils to transition from our schools and early years settings to UK based schools and nurseries with the minimum amount of disruption. The forward deployed Headquarters’ teams provide support and assurance for our School and Settings based staff, providing expertise in all aspects of school improvement.

The Headquarters for the DCS Schools and Settings Service, DCS(SAS)HQ, are based at Upavon and led by the Chief Education Officer. The CEO is supported by a Governance and Performance Officer and Business Support Assistant. The team are responsible for the leadership, co-ordination and performance of all schools and settings for Defence Children Services.

The post holder’s key responsibilities and main duties are:

- Co-ordinate the internal review process evaluating school effectiveness
- Lead the review process in DCS Schools and Settings across the world and publish the report to key stakeholders
- Advise schools, settings and Headquarters about requirements for statutory assessments and national examinations and ensure compliance
- Advise and co-ordinate the governance of schools and settings to ensure high quality local support and assurance.
- Provide analysis of performance data and trends appertaining to service children and mobility.
- Facilitate the Standards Board for DCS Schools and Settings.

**Person specification**:
The post holder will be required to hold the following qualification(s):

- Ofsted/ISI Inspector
- UK Qualified Teacher Status
- National Professional Qualification for Headship (Desirable)
- National Leader of Education (Desirable)

The post holder will be required to hold the following essential knowledge and experience:

- Current or very recent experience as an Ofsted or ISI Lead or Team Inspector
- Experience as a School or Multi-Academy Trust Governor/Trustee (Desirable)
- Experienced Education or Local Authority Leader

**Qualifications**:

- Ofsted/ISI Inspector
- UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Evidence of qualification will be required at interview- Equivalent Qualifications will not be accepted
