Child Protection Conference Chair

Bristol, United Kingdom Bristol City Council Full time

**Fixed Term for 12 months, Part Time 22.5 hours per week.**

We are looking for an experienced and confident practitioner to join the Child Protection Conference Service, as a Conference Chair. In the role you will need to fulfil the statutory duties of a Child Protection Conference Chair as set out in Working Together 2018.

In Bristol we are committed to embedding systemic practice approaches to working with families in the Child Protection Conference Service, to enable plans which are co-created with families and enable meaningful, sustainable change. As the conference chair you will need to be skilled in facilitating conversations between family and professionals about harm, and protective factors for the child and family. You will need to create environments where there is high level of support and empathy, but also accountability for both family members and professionals.

As a Chair you will need to have detailed knowledge and understanding of the types of harm children face and the evidence-based approaches for protecting children from further harm, enabling their recovery. You need to have an extensive understanding of statutory child protection processes including PLO. The Child Protection Chair has a pivotal role within quality assurance, overseeing practice across the City. Together we want to continue to develop the offer for children in Bristol and their families when there are child protection concerns and ensure a collaborative approach.

Participation is at the core of our work, and we have been working with parents and children regarding their experience of the child protection process as part of a project reviewing Conferences. This is helping us to focus on how we can deliver effective child protection conferences.

As a team we see the benefits of meeting regularly and having good quality peer support and reflective supervision, both in terms of our service development and on as individual basis. We strive to be supportive of each other and to be able to work as part of a team.

The conference service works closely with the Independent Reviewing service for children in care. This is a supportive relationship where we share a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of child protection, child in need, and children in care.
