We have a great opportunity for an Operational Risk Oversight Consultant (Central Functions) to join our Risk and Compliance team. This is a permanent role that can be based in Edinburgh or London.

About the Department

The Operational Risk Oversight (Central Functions) Team currently comprises of 5 people and sits within the Enterprise Risk department which is a central part of the wider Risk & Compliance division. Enterprise Risk includes a number of teams covering areas including: Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment, risk system and data analytics, risk reporting, conduct, mandatory training, data privacy, compliance oversight and risk business partnering for abrdn’s key central functions.

About the Role
- Providing oversight, challenge and advice, to ensure the Enterprise Risk Management Framework is embedded and operating effectively in relation to the central functions
- Creating and maintaining effective relationships with business and functional partners, providing value adding oversight, education and support on the use of the operational risk framework, tools and processes and reporting and advising areas of non-compliance
- Supporting the wider team in ensuring that where issues are identified appropriate mitigating actions are implemented by the business and tracked through to completion.
- Providing broad operational assistance in relation to the production of team outputs, including the production of specialist oversight reports.
- Supporting the production of relevant management information.
- Supporting the independent views on risk reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, Executive and Boards; providing an articulate and informed view of the risk profile and opinion on how risks are being identified, mitigated and supervised
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to build and maintain and effective control environment for business areas, providing guidance and support, alongside constructive challenge.
- Supporting the wider Risk & Compliance function in the delivery of functional activities where required.
- Operational Risk qualification/certification desired
- Partner management and interpersonal skills are a core capability recognising that the role requires building relationships and trust, with ability to influence and deliver in a proactive and collaborative manner
- Ability to demonstrate intellectual curiosity to understand and surface insights that helps strengthen risk management efficiency and provides insight and opinion
- Communication skills to articulate and convey key messages (written and verbal) with quality and impact for Risk and Control meetings, as well as supporting reporting for Committee/Executive/Board level audiences
- Outcome focused and with strong ability to facilitate collaborative working within and across teams
- Practical knowledge of operational risk management framework components desired, i.e. risk identification and assessment processes, risk event and issues management, scenario development and assessment
- Practical knowledge of Operational Risk Management systems
- Personal resilience and confidence to effectively challenge and hold others to account.
- Highly analytical with strong problem solving skills.
- Desirable for experience of one or more of finance, HR, Corporate Responsibility or legal
- An understanding of abrdn and its strategic goals preferred
