Macmillan Assistant Psychologist

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Psychologist to join our Cancer and Palliative Care Psychology Service in South West Hertfordshire to contribute to service development and support clinical work. We value multi-disciplinary team working and our services include Psychologists, Macmillan Family Therapists, and trainee psychologists, working alongside multi-disciplinary professionals working in Oncology and Palliative care.
The role is to support the Cancer and Palliative Care Psychology Team who draw on varied therapeutic models to provide psychological assessment and interventions to clients experiencing psychological difficulties as a result of a cancer diagnosis or end of life physical health condition that may require specialist palliative care input.
The post holder will be expected to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team in both hospital and community settings with a 1 hour supervision session with a qualified psychology member of staff for every 5 days worked. The post holder will support the MDT, collate questionnaire data, and carry out statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel, assisting in the compilation of reports. It provides a fantastic opportunity to develop and expand your existing skills and knowledge of NHS service development working alongside Clinical Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the exciting development of a new Cancer and Palliative Care Psychology service. Assisting in the development and maintaining of clinical patient record systems showing Key Performance Indicators. To participate in audit, service evaluation and/or research and to undertake teaching and project work under the supervision of a qualified member of staff. Supporting the provision of a systematic service under the direction and supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist who will retain clinical responsibility for any clinical work carried out, provided that the clinical work is within the care plan specified. Specific duties will be determined on the basis of skills and experience and operational service requirements, and may vary occasionally as service needs/priorities change.
The post holder will be expected to be based at Watford General Hospital, travel across South West Hertfordshire, and attend in person team meetings in Letchworth Garden City Hertfordshire.
It is essential that the post holder has access to a car and holds a valid Driving License to drive in the UK.
