Activity & Engagement Coordinator

An opportunity has become available to join the Newport team at the Hatherton Centre, St George’s hospital.
The Hatherton Centre is a medium secure service, with Newport being the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The Engagement coordinator role is an important member of the ward team working closely with Nursing and Occupational Therapy colleagues to support the delivery of planned interventions and provide engagement and activities to service users on the ward that promote recovery. In this role you will be working on a 1:1 basis and in group settings, whilst managing resources relating to activities and therapies on the ward.

Successful applicants will be able to function confidently in multi-disciplinary teams and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will demonstrate passion for making a positive contribution to improving the quality of life for people with mental health problems.
Directly working on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting to enable service users to actively support their recovery and reintegration into the community.
Providing ward and community based activities to the client group.
Working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in close liaison with colleagues.
Developing and maintaining links with community groups / forums, etc. to enable service users to successfully rehabilitate and reintegrate.
Directly managing resources relating to activities and therapies on the wards.
The post holder will provide formalised support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. They will engage with adult mental health service users to promote recovery and reintegration with the aim of assisting service users to gain and maintain independence in the community or other step down settings. The post holder will work as part of the ward based team and work collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide engagement and activities to patients on the wards that promote recovery.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users.
2. To work primarily in direct work with service users on a 1:1 and in group settings, e.g. objective setting for meaningful leaves, developing individual learning plans, access to benefits or to employment to enable successful social reintegration.
3. Help individuals identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals and actively, practically and creatively support their progress towards these.
4. Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable participation in community and/or work activities, to maximise service user's opportunities for socially valued roles and positive identity.
5. Ensure that service user’s recovery goals are integrated into the Trusts care and risk plans and CPA process and ensure these are reviewed on a regular basis, through liaising closely with multi-disciplinary team members as necessary.
6. Actively engage with colleagues and other professionals to ensure the needs of the client group are met through promoting recovery orientated practice.
7. Support, encourage and guide as appropriate other members of the team, e.g. healthcare support workers, apprentices, students.
8. Support other members of the multi-disciplinary team in promoting recovery and activities and in identifying recovery focused activities imparting information/education as required.
