To support and enhance the psychological care of clients within Atherleigh Park Hospital through the delivery of evidence-based assessments and psychological interventions with service users and their families.

To work within the agreed specialty / ward under the supervision of an appropriately qualified psychologist. You will have access to relevant CPD opportunities and work according to a plan agreed with the supervisor, within the overall framework of the policies and procedures of the team or service.

To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. Overall, this will require work on a one-to-one and/or group basis, in a highly emotive atmosphere, necessitating the maintenance of a high degree of professionalism at all times. The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users and their carers, in line with the culture of trauma-informed care and embrace the core values of the organisation.

You will work within The Therapy Hub with other professionals including Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Activity co-ordinators, Therapy Assistants and Assistant Practitioners. There are five wards covering adult admission, older persons and psychiatric intensive care. The service will operate 7 days a week between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00 and you will work between these hours.

2. To assist in the formulation and delivery of interventions involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified practitioner psychologist, in both community and in-patient settings as appropriate to the specialty work.

3. Having received instruction through supervision, to provide one-to-one consultations with service users, working autonomously within the limits of this instruction and within personal competence.

4. To use a degree of initiative and work independently with service users on planned work, and to exercise judgement based on good practice (NICE) and local operating procedures.

5. To work with potentially distressing material in relation to service users’ personal histories and presentation, including risk to self and others.

6. Preparing agreed assessment reports accurately in the accepted format.

7. To coordinate and facilitate therapeutic groups.

8. Where required, to work with other staff to assess inpatients, day patients or residents and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
