To coordinate the planning, promotion and reporting of the institutional Office for

Students (OfS) Access and Participation Plan (APP) accountable scholarships and
bursaries offer.

Support the targeting of scholarships and bursaries for individuals under
- represented in higher education, and support the targeting and promotion of
wider institutional scholarships and bursaries which target ‘home’ students.

To play a key role in liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to raise
awareness of University of Sunderland scholarships and bursaries, promoting the
offer to prospective students in schools, colleges and at University-wide
recruitment events.

**Key Responsibilities**
**and Accountabilities**:

- Plan and coordinate scholarships and bursaries in line with university

strategic priorities. This will involve operational working with key internal and
external stakeholders, accurate recording and reporting of data and
effectively responding to business assurance requirements.
- Produce scholarships and bursaries terms and conditions and guidance

documents for applicants, students, and staff.
- Liaise with relevant internal teams to ensure that scholarships and bursaries

applicants and students.
- Coordinate and prepare accurate and timely scholarships and bursaries

horizon scanning tasks.
- Produce high quality written proposals, reports and presentations for senior

managers, specifically relating to scholarships and bursaries awarding trends
and scholarship and bursaries spend behaviours. Produce quarterly reports,

annual beneficiary statistics and other data to evidence the impact of the
offer.

institutional website, social media campaigns, podcasts and videos, fees,
finance and scholarship presentations via liaison with relevant internal
marketing teams.
- Supervise, coach and develop the Scholarships and Bursaries Assistant.
- Promote the scholarship and bursaries offer at institutional recruitment

events such as open days, applicant days, confirmation and clearing and
other events, both in person and online.
- Convene and lead a scholarships and bursaries working group for all internal

stakeholders.
- Ensure a high level of service is delivered to all internal and external

stakeholders.
- Promote and encourage equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Coordinate the institutional scholarship and bursaries message to key staff

across the institution who support the recruitment of students.
- Ensure an effective and timely response to a wide range of scholarships and

bursaries enquiries.
- Identify and be committed to professional development, undertake training

and staff development opportunities to ensure high standards of delivery and
continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the efficient functioning of the team as directed by the

Widening Access and Participation Manager. To have a flexible approach to
support the focus of student recruitment, and a willingness to undertake any
other tasks the Head of Widening Access and Participation and the Widening
Access and Participation Manager may request from time to time.

**Circumstances**:
A flexible approach to working is required, including evenings and weekends.
The role involves regional travel and may also require UK travel and overnight
stays.

- Educated to degree level or hold an equivalent relevant qualification or

experience.

- Demonstrable experience of financial record keeping and maintenance of

budgets.
- Proven experience of working within a role that requires effective planning

and organisational skills, strong attention to detail and an ability to
negotiate, persuade and influence.
- Demonstrable experience of working independently and problem solving.
- Experience of working in a customer focused environment, delivering the

highest possible standards of customer service.

- Knowledge of higher education financial support including scholarships

and bursaries.
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of under-represented groups

in higher education.
