Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Reports to: Payroll Manager

Based at: Richmond, Greater London, UK

The Finance Department is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join their team in Richmond on a permanent basis.

The job: The role is to take responsibility for the accurate processing of the UK based payrolls to internal and statutory deadlines. The person also needs to ensure all payroll related items are dealt with to the required deadlines.

The main elements of the job are:

- Ensure that all payroll changes notified by HR and uploaded from Workday are correctly entered into the Payroll Bureau software.
- Producing monthly payroll analysis, headcount, starters & leavers, pension, Share Save, Dental Plan reports for distribution to internal customers and RELX HQ
- Liaising with new starters to arrange completion of Starter Declaration and submission of P45 (if applicable) and ensure that they have completed their bank details on Workday; send out instructions on how to access their payslips in time for their first pay day.
- Supporting Payroll Manager in preparation of journals, reconciliation of payroll related balance sheet accounts and ensuring third party payments and data loads are completed on time.
- Dealing with general payroll correspondence and queries relating to Tax, NIC, employees etc.
- Preparation of monthly pension starters, changes and normal contribution information, uploading these to Scottish Widows portal in accordance with set deadlines
- Updating Workday with new pension contribution rates at employees' 3-year anniversary to ensure upload to the next payroll run
- Assisting with the completion of end of tax year annual tax filings, including P11Ds and dealing with subsequent queries.
- Assisting with the legacy monthly pension scheme admin and annual return.
- Ensuring all parent company payments to senior executives for incentive programs and share-based schemes are correctly recorded on the payroll.
- Preparation of directors' emoluments and other fiscal year reports ready for auditing purposes.
- Ad-hoc reports and data analysis.
- Supporting the Payroll Manager and cover during their absence.

This position requires a person who can demonstrate:

- Attention to detail, consistency and reliability.
- A professional and confidential individual is required due to the sensitive nature of the data handled.
- A solid, practical experience of UK based payrolls with a good understanding of the underlying PAYE and benefits system rules is a must.
- Ability to prioritise coupled with good time management skills to ensure all tasks are completed to immoveable deadlines.
- Good interpersonal skills. Being able to liaise with people at all levels both within the organisation and externally.
- A flexible approach to deal with the demands of the uneven workload throughout the month.
- Has the confidence to raise issues of concern and, where appropriate, shows the initiative to deal with them.
- Must take responsibility for completion of tasks but also know when to escalate if problems aren’t getting resolved promptly.
- A good level of Excel.
- Prior experience of Oracle, ADP Freedom and Workday would be an advantage.
- CIPP qualification desirable but not essential.
