**Hours**: 37.5 per week

The Histology laboratory CWPS is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced state registered BMS/Trainee to join our busy and friendly team at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Applicants must be HCPC registered or have an accredited degree and be prepared to work towards the IBMS registration portfolio. Experience of working within a busy Histology department is desirable.

**Additional Contract Information**: - Annex 21: 70% of the top salary point of Band 5 - (£30.615) for year 1 and 75% of the top salary point of band 5 (£30,615) for year 2

The laboratory operates a full rotation system through all sections. Training and encouragement is provided for CPD and other personal development.

Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology is an emerging Network formally established in October 2007 following the Acute Services Review in Coventry and Warwickshire. The service is based on the hospital sites at Coventry (University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire), Nuneaton (George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust) and Warwick (South Warwickshire Hospital). The network offers an excellent opportunity to those seeking employment in a modern, innovative and high-profile organisation.

1. Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures
2. Perform daily interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical non conformity and when to inform the line manager
3. Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation
4. As appropriate record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them
5. Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal record
6. Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff
7. Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staf
8. Under supervision, develop and investigate new techniques as required by the changing needs of the service
9. To regularly inform and discuss progress of training towards a post registration specialist competence portfolio, with the laboratory training officer and other senior staff as appropriate.
