**ADVANCED METAL FABRICATOR/WELDER APPRENTICESHIP LEVEL 3**

**What does an advanced engineering apprenticeship involve?**

Apprentices are trained to Level 3 in Fabrication/Welding to maintain and support mechanical systems within our sophisticated plant. All apprentices study for a BTEC/equivalent technical certificate on day release at the local training provider, with the practical training delivered on site at Springfields in our engineering academy followed by site area training in the working environments.

The first six months gives the foundations, where you’ll learn basic engineering skills including developing skills in bench fitting, measuring, machining - ensuring accuracy to the specifications. This is in preparation to working in a variety of site locations to completing a Metal Fabrication/Welder Technician Apprenticeship including completing an NVQ Level 3 covering fabrication and/or welding modules. You will start a specialised training programme over four years and progressing in the final months to show your competency in metal fabrication/welding skills to complete your apprenticeship and preparing for your final assessment.

On-the-job training on the plant on site, gaining knowledge and practical skills guided by experienced professionals. The instructors work with you to ensure you have the required development to support you in your work environment on site. The Training Academy have a number of individuals who will support you during your apprenticeship.

**What are the areas of development?**

Advanced Engineering Apprenticeships are currently offered in the following areas:
**Advanced Metal Fabricator**:

- **Interpret technical drawings, patterns, templates and specifications to mark out, produce and assemble complex fabricated products to meet the required specification and quality requirements. Cutting, drilling, shaping and preparing METAL materials during fabrication activities using manual and power tools, thermal and laser cutting, as required calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments/equipment. Operate thermal joining equipment to join metal parts using a range of appropriate techniques to the standards required by the specifications for the fabrication activity being carried out.
- role will focus on the Metal/Welder Fabricator route apprenticeship scheme at Westinghouse-Springfields includes a variety of jobs on site working in the workshop alongside other recovery plant working teams, carrying out fault finding/repair, fabrication and maintenance jobs for the site.

**Advanced Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship Level 3**
- maintenance - 3 phase supply and motors, wall bay construction project.
- and control - measurement, and control, transmitters, level pressure, flow and temperature.
- **maintenance Engineering Apprenticeship Level 3** - hydraulics, pneumatics, gaskets and seals, drive systems, use of machining equipment and engineering techniques.
- **Technician**:

- the occupation is to produce complex and precision work by machining components. Components are machined from metal or specialist materials using conventional or CNC machine tools. Machining Technicians interpret information and plan their activities. They also set up, operate, adjust or edit machine tool settings. When using CNC equipment, they can produce, prove or edit programmes. They inspect components and machinery, report issues and support continuous improvement activities.

**What do I need to apply?**

Our four-year apprenticeships are following the national apprenticeship standards and aimed at people with qualifications at GCSE in maths, English and a science grades A-C or 5 -9 or predicted to be at this level or equivalent qualifications.

Enthusiasm for problem solving and a motivation for a role in engineering.

**What happens at the end of the apprenticeship?**

The apprenticeship starts in August 2024.
