Continuous Amphibious Readiness is one of the Royal Navy’s key outputs. 47 Commando Raiding Group Royal Marines (47Cdo (RG) RM) delivers support to the Commando Force’s amphibious capability. Within 47Cdo, 11 Squadron, based at RM Instow, enables this with the trials and development of amphibious equipment that is at the forefront of Commando Forces, delivering specialist amphibious training on a variety of vehicles and boats to project and sustain forces from the sea. The Safety Equipment Maintainer ensures that we can meet our objectives by ensuring all the equipment that is crucial to meet the demands of the Engineering Dept, Training Dept & Amphibious Trials and Development Wing is fit for purpose and safe to use. This busy, interesting and safety critical position is vital to enable us to deliver current and future operations in a safe and efficient manner.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
The Safety Equipment Maintainer supports RM Instow with provision of essential equipment maintenance and inspection that supports the outputs of 11 Squadron
Main duties involve
- The Servicing, maintenance, and inspection of all 11 Squadron
- Water Survival Equipment (WSE)
- Lifting equipment
- Vehicle and building fire extinguishers.
- Racking, ladders and steps
- Vehicle Complete Equipment Spares (CES)
- Maintaining comprehensive electronic and hard copy records to meet audit and assurance requirements on the appropriate MOD IT software systems, for which full training will be given
- Providing demonstrations on the wearing and proper use of WSE to authorised personnel.
There will also be a requirement to work within HMNB (Devonport) at 47Cdo, (RM Tamar) to conduct equipment maintenance or inspections, and other support functions within the job role. This may involve overnight stays at His Majesty’s Naval Base (Devonport), for which you will be entitled to Travel and Subsistence, in accordance with the current policy.
**Other Responsibilities**
As Safety Equipment Maintainer, you will also be working with other departments in support of Amphibious Trials and Training, crewing the Beach Recovery Vehicle (BRV), or assisting with lifting operations as the Slinger/Signaller, occasionally during unsocial hours, for which a premium will be paid in line with current MOD Policy
You will also be responsible for demanding equipment spares to ensure that RM Instow can continue to deliver our outputs.
Depending upon experience and qualifications, travel including overnight stays may be required in order to complete training vital to fulfil the role.
**Person specification**:
This role requires a degree of diligence and ability to work to procedures and schedules. It also involves having an eye for detail. The role also requires a degree of physical ability, as it involves manual handling tasks.
It is desirable to hold a full UK driving Licence with Category B entitlement and no more than 6 penalty points
