Access to Records Officer

**Job Purpose**: To assist and support the Team and Legal Services in providing a comprehensive and effective access service relating to the disclosure and redaction of personal information held in paper and computer files
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Undertake case work as directed by the Information Specialist relating to the access to records under the Data Protection Act 1998 by members of the public, third parties such as solicitors and law enforcement agencies.
3. The preparation and issue of children's social care files as directed and under the supervision of the Information Specialist and Senior Child Protection Lawyer, with appropriate redactions.
4. To ensure that the delivery of the access records is within the statutory timescales
5. To advise the customers and carers concerning their rights under the Data Protection Act 1998
6. Supporting the staff of the service e.g. undertaking research into data protection matters or clerical duties as required
7. Maintain good working relationships with other members of the Department and managers and other services.
8. Undertake such other tasks within the level of responsibility for the post as may from time to time be assigned by an appropriate manager or qualified Lawyer to support the service.
9. Undertake tasks with mínimal supervision as and when requested.
10. Personal responsibility to meet demands of day to day workloads and take responsibility to prioritise duties.
Structure
1. The officer reports to the Information Specialist but will also have reporting involvement with the Senior Child Protection Lawyer
**Generic Responsibilities**: To carry out all responsibilities with regard to the Equalities Policy and Procedures and Customer Care Policy.
To comply with all Health & Safety at work requirements as laid down by the employer.
**Flexibility Clause**: Other duties and responsibilities express and implied which arise from the nature and character of the post within the department (or section) mentioned above or in a comparable post in any of the Organisation's other sections or departments.
