Switchboard Operator

An exciting opportunity is available at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in our Switchboard team for a Band 2 Switchboard Operator. Reporting to the Switchboard Supervisor, the Switchboard Operator will will be responsible for answering and managing all calls that are received at the Princess Alexandra NHS Trust Switchboard.

A spelling test will be carried out at interview, and good understanding of the English Language is essential.

**The working schedule for this role is as follows**:
Day 10am - 6pm, Late 2 - 10pm

**week 1**: Thurs - 10-6pm, Fri-10-6pm, Sat - Late

**Week 2**: Friday - Late, Sat - 10-6pm

**week 3**: Mon - 10-6pm, Sat - 10-6pm

**Week 4**: Tues - 10-6pm, Thurs - 10-6pm, Fri -late

22.5 hours

Shifts are non negotiable and cant be changed

**The main duties for the role are as follows**:

- The monitoring and management of all alarms in the Switchboard department.
- Dealing with and responding to staff, patient, relative, visitor and other NHS organisation queries or concerns
- Managing cardiac/trauma calls & paging emergency team call alerts
- Provide and manage collection of site keys, distribution and change of pagers / change of pager batteries.
- Booking couriers and taxis
- Complete all management and departmental on call Rotas
- Issuing of pagers / bleeps
- Carry out any other duties associated with the post as required by switchboard supervisor or/and Switchboard Manager

There will be a requirement for flexible working to ensure there is appropriate cover at all times for the Switchboard to ensure all calls are answered and managed in a timely and professional manner. This will involve weekend and Bank Holiday shifts, including Christmas working and may include Early Shifts, Day Shifts, Late Shifts and Night Shifts.

We operate a 24/7 service so flexibility is key and shifts may need to change at short notice, Annual leave is not permitted over the Christmas period

Princess Alexandra Hospital is conveniently located in Harlow, Essex just 25 minutes drive to London Stansted Airport and 25 minutes train ride to London Liverpool Street. Harlow also has excellent road connections across England, with the M11, M25, A10, M1 and A1 all on its doorstep.
