Head Gardener

**Summary of Role**
- We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Gardener to lead the maintenance and development of our care village gardens. As head of a small team, they will ensure that the bungalow gardens and communal areas, as well as overseeing the day to day upkeep of the care home’s outside spaces, remain in perfect condition all year round. _
**Key Responsibilities**
- Garden Management: Oversee the maintenance and development of all gardens, green spaces, and landscaped areas within the care village and bungalows.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate a small team of gardeners and other staffing resources.
- Plant Care: Help to plan and execute seasonal planting, pruning, and general plant care to ensure healthy and aesthetically pleasing gardens.
- Maintenance: Perform and oversee routine maintenance tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, weeding, and controlling pests and diseases.
- Design and Planning: Collaborate with the village ownership and other stakeholders to design garden areas, and improve existing ones, incorporating residents' preferences and needs wherever possible
- Resident Engagement: Engage with residents (where possible) to understand their gardening interests, and facilitate resident-led gardening activities.
- Budget Management: Manage the gardening budget, including sourcing and purchasing plants, tools, and equipment in accordance with other stakeholders..
- Health and Safety: Ensure all gardening activities comply with health and safety regulations and best practices.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in gardening or horticulture, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Education: Formal training in, or significant experience of horticulture, landscape design, or a related field is preferred.
- Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of plants, soil, pest control, and garden maintenance techniques.
- Skills: Good leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a team effectively.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Passion: A genuine passion for gardening and enhancing outdoor environments for the well-being of others.
- Physical Fitness: The ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From £14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 - 44 per week
