We currently have an exciting leadership opportunity to join us as a Science Group Leader for our Trials, Test & Evaluation Sub Function (TT&E) which provides the Trials & Test Technology Centre (3TC) with competent staff to support and field a range of experiments aimed at delivering data in support of UK and US programmes.

Location: Reading

Package: £55,270-£62,000 p/a (depending on suitability and level of experience).

Closing Date: 16th February 2024

The Role?

Group Leader Key Accountabilities:

- Accountable for leading, coaching & developing a team of leaders and influencing others at specialism or functional level to create & deliver our operational plans.
- Engage, motivate and encourage performance of the Group and the people within it.
- Assessing team leader performance, measured against agreed personal objectives and accountabilities, and taking corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions.
- Set the technical direction, appropriate to the Group and input into the current and future sub-function strategy and capability.
- Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.

Group Leader Key Responsibilities:

- Implement the sub-function strategy while managing resources in a safe, secure and cost-efficient manner.
- Be part of the Leadership team demonstrating and driving professional behaviours.
- Deployment of the Group people capability to successfully deliver the strategic goals of the sub-function now and in the future.
- To encourage and drive agility through the Group, ensuring that the sub-function is able to respond and adapt to changes and better ways of working across the Programme.
- To develop national and international recognition for AWE to leverage opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders, further enhance scientific and technical reputation and provide confidence to customers.
- To identify functional and operational risks and that they are mitigated /escalated as required.
- Exercise financial awareness to ensure the costs are optimised to provide value and seek opportunities to make savings.
- Understanding the industry challenges and changes which could impact AWE.
- Identify requirements and lead collaboration with external partners.
- The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs.

To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:

- Experience of managing multi-disciplinary technical teams and programmes both within the sub-function and across functions.
- Proven track record of driving delivery, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Leading people through transformation and change.
- Excellent strategic and tactical planning skills.
- Excellent decision making, problem-solving abilities, excellent interpersonal, negotiation and organisational skills.
