**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
The UCLH Clinical Education Team requires a focused, committed, enthusiastic individual with good management and leadership skills and specific knowledge and experience of Manual Handling and education in healthcare.

The post holder will support the uclh Head of Clinical Education to deliver the UCLH Education Strategy through collaboration with key stakeholders internal and external to the Trust, working in partnership to further develop stakeholder engagement and involvement in manual handling education and training to support a culture of learning and openness across professional groups.

The Manual Handling Advisor works as part of a multi-professional team to develop, implement and evaluate education designed to enhance patient safety and quality in health care delivery across specialities and professional groups. The Manual Handling Advisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the manual handling course portfolio. They will report to and support the uclh Head of Clinical Education with operations services, including input to the budget, equipment and supplies procurement, scheduling of courses and staff, supervision of faculty, and supervision of any administrative staff and promotion of the service.

A key element of the role is to deliver high quality Clinical Education within the UCH Education Centre and in-situ off and across sites. There is a strong focus on quality assurance and faculty development, working in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and the uclh Head of Clinical Education.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Current and appropriate level of professional/ statutory Registration for area of specialty e.g. RN/ RM/ HCPC/MD
- Evidence of professional post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience
- Educated to BSc / 1st degree level or equivalent qualification / training and experience
- Recognised teaching qualification or demonstrates equivalent highly developed specialist knowledge, skills, and formal teaching experience at degree level

**Desirable criteria**:

- Master’s degree or Apprenticeship L7 or working towards
- Recognised qualification or experience in coaching, mentoring and/or action learning
- Training in patient safety and human factors

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Post registration clinical practice experience in healthcare setting
- Clinical experience working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care
- Experience working as a manual handling link worker/trainer
- Extensive teaching experience within a range of settings e.g., formal / informal, individuals / small / large groups, multidisciplinary, clinical / non-clinical environments, face to face / remotely.
- Extensive experience in designing, planning, delivering, and evaluating learning interventions in a range of settings.
- Practical experience conducting educational audit, evaluation or research
- Practical experience of leading and facilitating change and improvement
- Experience of developing and implementing new systems and procedures

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experience developing and delivering virtual / remote / electronic education packages
- Experience in committee work related to moving and handling

**Knowledge**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Working knowledge of clinical skills teaching equipment and aids
- Knowledge and understanding of current relevant NHS policies and drivers for change
- Highly developed understanding of educational theory and practice, particularly in relation to adult learners, experiential and reflective learning, and a commitment to educational quality
- Well-developed understanding of multidisciplinary issues and a commitment to multidisciplinary working

**Desirable criteria**:

- Knowledge and understanding of health professional education and curricula
- Well-developed understanding of core principles of human factors, particularly in relation to human error, non-technical skills, and systems design thinking

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Evidence of well-developed clinical practice
- Evidence of strong teaching and facilitation skills and highly-developed educational practice
- Routinely applies evidence-based research to clinical and educational practice across a range of settings
- Routinely applies governance principles to clinical and educational practice across a range of settings e.g., risk management, audit and quality assurance
- Proven ability to facilitate learning of multi-disciplinary learners in a range of settings e.g., in/formal, individuals / groups, non/clinical environments, face to face / remotely
