Newport City Council’s Environment and Public Protection service area brings together services such as waste and cleansing, grounds, community protection, parks and recreation, cemetery and crematorium, climate change, biodiversity and regulatory services.

Waste and cleansing is a rapidly changing environment. With new legislation in place from April 2024 that has changed collections of commercial waste and recycling, 2024 is a key year to ensure the Council provides a flexible, reliable and effective trade commercial service, and your role will be key in this area.

This is an exciting role that puts waste and recycling in the context of climate change and decarbonisation. You will design and oversee projects and activities that not only support the front line waste and cleansing operations but projects that also contribute to benefiting communities.

This post requires you to engage with clients to provide advice and support on correct segregation of their waste and recycling. You will be one of the key contact person to interact with all our trade waste customers and will be involved in all aspects of the trade collections service, from providing excellent customer support and dealing with queries and complaints, to ensuring correct capture of data, or supporting task such as invoicing, ordering stock etc.

You will report directly to the Waste Collections Manager and will work closely with and provide support as needed to other officers across the service area.
