**Status**:Term Time Only (plus one week) - 39 weeks per year**

**Hours**:30 per week (Monday to Friday)**

**Reports to**:SENDCo/Vice Principal/Principal**

**Purpose of the job**

**Targeted Support**
- To mentor one or a small group of pupils who require additional support to overcome barriers to learning.
- Identify the needs and assess those pupils requiring extra support and support the development of individual action plans for targeted pupils.
- Work in a 1-1 relationship with targeted pupils to implement an action plan
- May undertake home visits to keep parents informed and secure positive family support.
- Monitor the implementation of plans and report on progress achieved, support the re-integration of pupils excluded from school or following an alternative timetable.
- Provide extra support to pupils through knowledge of a range of activities and opportunities available to them.

**Resources**
- Develop and lead a range of activities intended to raise the self-esteem of pupils

**Exams, educational visits and other supervision**
- May invigilate exams and tests.
- May assist escorting pupils on educational visits.
- May assist with break time supervision including facilitating games and activities.

**Personal and welfare support**
- May assist pupils with dressing, hygiene and eating whilst encouraging independence.
- Supporting pupils emotional and social well-being, reporting any problems to the teacher.

**Systems, policies and procedures**
- Adherence to safeguarding requirements as well as health and safety

**Team involvement**
- May supervise other mentors including allocating work and offering advice and guidance.

**Building professional relationship**
- Support the development of partnerships with external agencies/organisations to set up resources/initiatives to help address barriers to learning.
- Liaise with teaching staff to provide particular support to targeted pupils to raise achievement and attendance and to help them overcome barriers to learning.
- Develops relationships with pupils to provide advice and guidance on learning and development

**Record keeping and information management**
- Maintain accurate pupil records and prepare written reports and evaluations

**Problem solving and decision making**
- Required to interpret complex information and situations and solve difficult problems and develop solutions.
- Access to line manager for unusual or difficult problems.

**Knowledge, skills and experience**
- Requires knowledge of procedures for a range of tasks for assessing needs, developing action plans and supporting individual pupils needing additional assistance to overcome barriers to learning.
- Working towards national occupational standards for learning, development and support services and knowledge and skills equivalent to level 4.
- IT and keyboard skills
- Knowledge and compliance with policies and procedures relevant to health and safety and child protection

**Physical demands and working conditions**
- Normal physical effort and may carry minor loads. Work is in a classroom environment but may sometimes involve home visits.

- Individuals have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people he/she is responsible for or comes into contact with.
- To ensure their tasks are carried out with due regard to Health and Safety
- To participate in appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of performance management.
