We have an exciting opportunity to join the Team in the Emergency Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting time to join our team and potentially be part of our new service development. We are very fortunate to be building a brand new Emergency Village. This will give staff a chance to work in a state of the art emergency department that’s modern and fit for purpose. The ED will have excellent facilities offering you a chance to work at the triage or in the rapid assessment and treatment zone as a Senior Decision Maker. Or would you prefer to work in the adrenaline filled zone of the 6 bedded ER with a dedicated paediatric resus bay?

Rarely would you find a department that has a new isolation zone to assess and treat covid patients but you will in Blackpool, making it safe for you to work with such high risk patients.

Reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all emergencies as appropriate

Proactive in ensuring all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making whilst ensuring quality and safety are delivered and sustained

Maintain the knowledge and skills essential for fulfilling the job plan.

Undertake revalidation as per the General Medical Council and undergo multisource feedback and participate in reflective practice

Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes

Provide cross cover for clinical duties when colleagues are absent to maintain service delivery

Administrative duties within the department

Keep patients (and / or carers) informed about their condition

Involve patients (and / or carers) in decision making about their treatment

Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council

Whilst on duty a doctor has a clinical and professional responsibility for their patients. Doctors will be expected to be flexible and cooperate with reasonable requests to cover for their colleagues’ absences where they are safe and competent to do so. If additional duties are undertaken outside of contracted hours, they will receive either and equivalent off duty period or remuneration. It is also the duty of the doctor to:

- Keep patients (and / or carers) informed about their condition
- Involve patients (and / or carers) in decision making about their treatment
- Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council
- To adhere to the NHS Constitution and its principles and values. You must be aware of your Duty of Candour which means that you must be open and honest during your employment and if you see something wrong, you must raise it. You must read the NHS Constitution in full and can download this from the Trusts intranet site or thegov.ukwebsite. Hard copies are available from the HR Department on request.
