**This opening assignment is for 2-3 months**

The purpose of the role is to assist the Electoral Services Manager in delivering an efficient electoral service which complies with electoral legislation and meets the performance standards set by the Electoral Commission for electoral registration and elections.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the supervision of approximately 50 temporary staff employed in the annual canvass, allocating them work, checking for accuracy and dealing with any issues relating to poor performance of the canvassers.
- Assist with the preparation and publication of the Register of Electors and the monthly rolling register process within the statutory legal frameworks.
- Prepare the Register of Electors, ensuring all additions and amendments are checked and approved before annual publication
- Update and maintain, through the team’s IT system, all information relating to the Register of Electors.
- Administer the sale of printed Electoral Registers and Electoral Register data to the public and organisations, including processing all income in accordance with Financial Regulations.
- Raise purchase orders and arrange payment of invoices.
- Process street numbering orders from the Planning Department with the use of ordnance survey maps, to ensure that all new developments are placed in the correct polling districts and that all properties are correctly identified.
- Assist in maintaining the Electoral Services archive in a clean and tidy condition.

**Qualifications**:

- Maths and English (Merit or above).
- Good general education and good levels of literacy and numeracy. High levels of accuracy and attention to detail are essential for this role.

**Skills & Experience**:

- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Strong administration and customer service skills, with excellent written, verbal and face to face communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and minimum supervision, resolving issues with customers while ensuring electoral policy and statutory law processes are adhered to
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a team
- Able to work unsociable hours, particularly at peak times during canvass and elections to ensure service delivery. The post holder will be required to work some weekends and evenings during these periods
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
